Anyone Living in Dubai?

well, if you're serious about this, i'd contact the UAE Embassy in your country or your Foreign Office/Ministry for Foreign Affairs, a travel firm can't give you appropriate advices about living there

i work in the travel industry myself (not too long ago i organized a trip for my sister who spent the New Year's Eve there), all i know, if you want to travel there you need a tourist VISA (you need to apply for it still you're at home, usually 3-4 weeks before you're planning to travel there, costs around $50), young ladies cannot travel there alone without an escort, i'm not sure about the age limit though, it's 28 methinks

"The government blocks all web sites that it deems ?offensive? to the ?religious, moral, and cultural values? of the UAE. That?s hard to swallow for a freedom loving American, but I get it. I do not understand, however, why all VOIP access and related web sites are blocked. I guess the government also takes offense to people inexpensively contacting their families back home. You?re welcome to call using the analog service provided by the government-owned telephone monopoly, but it will cost you a whole lot more. So much so, in fact, your frequency of calls will be greatly diminished if you can afford them at all. The government says VOIP is blocked for security reasons, yet even the residents of communist China and North Korea have access to these inexpensive calls."

UAE seems like what would happen if Apple owned a country, they both like to restrict and spy on people, lol.

UAE is a federation of 7 emirates(kingdoms) which chose a President to govern the Federation. Each emirate has an Emir(King),which rules. They really do not want people finding out about to much about the outside world, and having an Arab spring like many other countries have had.

Practically speaking living in dubai is a good choice not just because the place is very disciplined but because there are more opportunities of work there than the other parts in the middle east. Just saying. :) As a start it will cost you more than what you expect but then if you find a good work there then you will be able to adjust to it.

The Dubai for tourists is another world than the Dubai for people who are born there.

True ! but dubai is a good place for business, if you ask me. The guys who were there - were there as tourist. You need to ask people - "business men" bout, dubai and the tell you - its fvking awesome. lost of incentives, and its the best arab country - very lenient compared to others.

As long as ur are not there to break the law, i dont see why anybody would be scared. And how much does a dollar exchange for there... money is no issue , if you are doing fairly well in IM.

As for the blocking internet and stuff. i am sure there a thousands of people in Dubai roaming the internet freely. ;)
