I know quite a few members here live in the area.

I'm looking to buy a property in Florida in a couple of years time and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on good locations.

I'm from the UK but looking for a winter getaway.

Somewhere quiet, not polluted, low crime, etc. but still with access to amenities and perhaps to some of the bigger cities.

I’m struggling To make my own property in my city and it is toooooo much expensive..
BTW how much home cost in florida and in uk?
 
I know a little bit about Fl - been here since about 1985.

Are you looking for waterfront, rural, an apartment near a lot of activity, places that have nice restaurants, outdoor activity areas or anything else in particular?

Also, a budget would help even if it is a wide range as your dollar can go a long way in some areas and look like a quarter in others.
 
Not a resident but at one point my grandparents had a place in Winterpark Florida and a beach house in New Smyrna Beach that they built. Have not been back there since the funeral.

It would be but if you go north from there the beaches are spectacular, the restaurants are excellent and there is a ton of things to do.

St Pete is not bad for a day trip but to live there it is not the best idea although they do have a nice municipal golf course off of 4th avenue I liked to play back in the day.

Property is stupidly expensive in the UK when you compare it to other parts of the World. I live on the south coast and it's so expensive. Where I live you'll pay £300,000+ or so for a 2 bed bungalow with a garden.

Not an apartment. Waterfront would be nice, pool definitely (if not a waterfront then a nice view) quiet but not remote where you have to travel ages for a loaf of bread. I enjoy cycling, running and walking. Dinning out would be nice. 3 bedroom.

As for budget, I hear foreign mortgages start at 6% interest and 30% down. I had £100,000 in mind as deposit plus fees so something around $400,000? I'm not really sure if that's a lot or not or what that could get me?

Despite being only 21 partying is not my scene. I very much enjoy peace and quiet and sleep haha. Although somewhere I'd like to visit. I love the Latin/Cuban culture and building architecture. Big fan of Latin jazz etc.

look into Destin FL, it's impeccable there. Don't move to Jacksonville.

Stay away from Destin as it is hurricane ally. I've looked there myself and although it is really nice it gets hit with hurricanes all too often.

Tampa area has a lot of Latino activity and there are a ton of nice areas there and there is a ton of shopping and nice eateries within a driver and a 5 iron almost anywhere you live and you can get a nice place for 400K.

Outside Orlando you will find similar as well but realize both places will have a fair amount of traffic.

If you want to pass on the Latino aspects, Port St Lucie is not only nice but you get a great bang for you buck.

If I am 21 and want to buy a place to have for the next 50 years though I'm looking at Tampa and the adjoining counties; Pinellas, Pasco, a little south Sarasota or in Osceola county but Pinellas, Sarasota and Pasco would be my first choices.
 
Miami, remembers me always on gta vice city, scarface and miami vice. The only place in america that i would like to visit one day

you're right, savannah GA gets hit sometimes but they aren't nearly as strong.
 
Jacksonville here. Love it here. One of the largest cities by land area in the world. Largest parks system in the country. Plenty of hikes, beaches, rivers, tall buildings and things to do. Downtown needs some help, but it's in progress. There is crime in some places, but it's small pockets for the most part. We live in one of the older little areas close to downtown and a block from the St. Johns and we love every bit of it. Quiet neighborhood, beautiful old homes.

It has Florida weather with the southern charm missing from most other Florida cities. There are no other places in the state where you can get the true beach feel (both the more urban beach and TONS of secluded beaches) and the river feel. All of the photos I took in that thread last night were from one day in and around the Jacksonville area. Tons of history, tons of kind people, a massive city with a small town feel.

I've lived in Savannah and it is a beautiful place with an eclectic community with a ton of stuff to do and actually ended up living there (Thunderbolt actually) due to a hurricane but it is not nearly as vulnerable as the panhandle.
