anyone know how reddit ranking actually works behind the scenes?

specifically for stuff like “top x in career”

do reddit mainly prioritise subscriber count at first, and then once a sub hits some threshold (like 10k subs) it switches to prioritising weekly visitors more?

or is it always activity-based, with subscriber count just helping indirectly?

trying to figure out if there’s an actual size cutoff where ranking logic changes, or if that’s just something people assume.

No there is no specific number of subscribers a subreddit needs to rank, if your sub is active and have daily discussion and engagement then your sub can rank with just 1-2k subscribers and if you have 50k subscribers and your sub is not active and you don't have proper engagement then your sub won't rank.

okay its just confusing because my sub has more weekly visitors and subscribers then other subs but it still doesn't rank higher, so i'm wondering if age is a factor then.
 
Account age and karma matters aswell and even the content keywords matters

Don't worry just keep your sub active and if have real and natural engagement it will definitely rank higher than other in some time, and yes if other sub is old and have natural engagement then google will take time to start ranking your sub.
