In the past I've been critical of Windows 8, but with the introduction of Windows 8.1, MOST of the reputed reviewers online are saying it's a very good Operating System, which addresses some of the main complaints regarding its predecessor.

I'm a Windows 7 fan, love the traditional desktop, so the new "boot to desktop" feature and return of the Start button are a welcome boost. Although I'd probably install Classic Shell anyway.

Just curious to hear from anyone who's currently upgraded and how they're finding it.

I am using windows 8.1. There aren't many different things, just start button added...
I am using mostly the desktop mode, in the modern UI there are more new things.

yes. it's more polished than windows 8. it has a new music interface, ie11, start button is back but it just brings you back to 'metro'

hi man! i'm also a seven fan, but i've tried it and i can also say that 8.1 works like a charm.
greetings

I am with Windows 7 still. Anyone, please tell me something that inspires me to upgrade to Win 8.1? Windows 8 is shit!

Whats new in windows 8.1? is it back to the original design similar to windows 7? Cause i heard windows 8 sucks lol

Like others, I am a Win7 fan too but I think it's time to upgrade.
Do you guys know a tool which copy (all the software settings, logs etc) from Win7 to Win8.

Thank god, no. Will probably give it a go in a virtual machine at some point for compatibility purposes and nothing else.

No rush, though, to me the "tiled ui" of win8 is just super retarded, just like the concept of a PC/tablet conversion. If I want to use a tablet OS I'll stick to some OS designed for a tablet, when I use a "standard computer" I need to do different shit, plain and simple.

That's the point with Win 8.1 though, there's no need to ever see the tiled UI, because of the introduction of the "boot to desktop" feature. One of the reviews online said something like, "if you want a faster version of Windows 7, then get Windows 8.1".

I garantie Windows 8 makes your computer run application 100 times more faster than any other windows os(the time the programms load, are been executed, much reliable).. 7 is good to but 8 is much better, and dosen`t matter how many of you will say 7 is better, its not true..

3 computers i have. 1 xp2 and 2 windows 7
why change? if it works for u like charm?
however for truth i tried 8.1 on ma gf pc and it is shit, they added a start button, all i noticed.
it is like iphones, u ask: why swicth from iphone 4 to 5?
they answer: cause every one have changed,
i answer: no offence but fuck everybody, i like my shit even if it is windows 95 lol, if it works for my needs, it is awesome.

This is an interesting point, although -let me wear my tin foil hat here- after the recent revelations about a famous 3-letter agency I would barely trust windows in a virtual machine disconnected from the net, go figure real hardware... Don't really dig having supposedly built-in ehm "call-home bundles" that I can't disable...

I still own the first book on how to code the win95 APIs in C so it's not some uneducated guess, but it this isn't enough let's just say this is a over-zealous precaution, let's put it this way ;)

and other point windows 8 will run faster than ur old windows 7.
it is new on ur computer, and i believe y'all when you say that, however, if u install new copy of windows 7, ur computer will run faster guaranteed,
give ur windows 8 some time and u see how fast it will be after 3 months
in other hand windows 7 after 3 months will be faster, why? cause it uses less RAM...

Can you upgrade from windows 7 > windows 8.1 easily without losing your data? What's the best way to do this?

Yeah but you can't have more than 4GB of RAM on Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP...

That's why I think even XP lovers will eventually need to move on... even if it's to Win 7, which is of course, a great OS.
