Anyone here using the new Windows 8.1?

I upgraded from Windows XP straight to Linux and have not looked back.

Am I the only one who enjoys Win 8?! I mean its basically the same as Win 7, but everything is more convenient. I much prefer no start menu. So I'll be sticking with 8. :)

I'm using Windows8 with Pokki as start menu and it's a fantastic add-on.

Interesting, never heard to Pokki, just checked it out - looks pretty decent. I actually have installed "Classic Shell" on my Win7. Still love the old-skool Win95 start menu, heh.

Upgraded from XP to 7 at beginning of the year. I don't like 8.

I have Windows 8 on one of the family's laptop, I wouldn't put that crap on a work computer. The OS is fine, I like the quick startup and there are some nice new features. But the bizarre mashup of commands that exists between the desktop and the tablet interface is just weird and is akin to a Windows developer on a bad acid trip. Charms anyone? It makes no freaking sense if you don't have a touchscreen. And I don't need a touch on laptop or desktop, I can do whatever I want with the keyboard or mouse or with a digital tablet. By the way I own three tablets.

And the no start menu is a nightmare for me, I usually have a couple of hundred apps installed and the stupid Metro tiles are not hierarchical so you can't organize anything very easily. So instead I use Stardock's Start8 start menu and the product is at least tolerable. It's all so lame and forced and I would love to shove the OS up Ballmer's ass before he goes! Needless to say I have a new development machine and it runs Windows 7. Big fail and If Microsoft continues down this road I'm going Ubuntu big time.

Sorry, I had to get that off my chest!

Tried Kubuntu a while back - nightmare. Compatibility issues, driver issues, programs not working. This was a few years ago, maybe it's improved, but I won't be going back.

Are there any compatibility issues with Licorne, GSA SER, UD, ScrapeBox, GSA CP while using windows 8?

Good question. The thing is the uptake of any new OS is generally quite slow, especially for the 1st year or so. So I don't think many people would have really tested these softwares on Win8.

I mean, just look at Windows XP, around a third of people still use it, despite it being well over a decade old.

I have set up a few computers for customers with Win8 and 8.1. First things installed are Classic Shell, a registry hack to kill the lock screen, Modern Mix to run apps in windows. Uxthemes, a decent theme based on Windows 7, and Aeroglass. Customers leave with a smile on their face. They are happy that they now have a usable computer.

I may even pick up a business contract or two doing the conversion to a desk top computer instead of a computer with the tendency to think it is a smartphone.

Too funny that you have to do all these mods to make a desktop OS, well you know, usable like a desktop. I mean what the hell was Redmond thinking? The good news in the years ahead Microsoft will be cleaning house now that the idiot Ballmer is soon to be history.

I even install Classic Shell on my Windows 7. For me it's a must.

Lol, hilarious mate.
