There have been a few discussions around the forum about TLDs, and the consensus generally seems to be the same:
  1. the TLD shouldn't have any impact on ranking, no matter what it is
  2. lesser known TLDs could effect your CTR negatively, because of a lack of trust
  3. local TLDs are best in their own geographical regions
Last year there was an interesting study that found that the trust issue varies depending on age bracket. For the most part, people do seem to trust .com and the other OGs more than the new TLDs on the block, but if you’re choosing a TLD, the demographic of your audience might inform what will work best for you.

I wondered if anyone has been using different TLDs and noticed anything interesting? Has anyone done any comparisons or testing on TLDs?

i havent done any particular research but i have ranked .xyz and .online sites with no problems at all .i had one crypto related .online rank 1st page in about 2 weeks although it was a low competition keyword. ive used other tlds but mainly to quickly turn over a site such as .trade and .press . to sell .it opens up a whole new world when local .coms and .co.uks have been taken and you can offer a similar domain without the punter knowing it cost you less than 80p lol

Yeah I guess the beauty of all these TLDs is choice - you've got options even if .com and .co.uk are already taken. Interesting that you've not had any issues ranking those TLDs - have you noticed any differences in CTR and traffic?

No problem ranking odd TLDs. It's all about on page content and inbound links. But .com is still king.

I bought bunch of .xyz's when that $1 sale was going on
Sent traffic to a content locker type site. Converted okay.
One day I thought, let me stop being cheap, and buy a $10 .com
Convert rate shot up some +30% with same traffic I was sending.
The trust is there for .com.

,i mainly do local seo so ctr isnt an issue .9/10 im just selling the site with an appropriate name ,most are local trades that just want a web address but with the crypto i mentioned it was eth classic and launched on the day of hard fork so i was one of the few and all articles were original

True, I don't think it matters considering Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc's domain is https://abc.xyz hehe..
