Been runnin FB ads for a while n somethin's been buggin me — the in-platform reported CPA/ROAS numbers have been lookin noticeably better than what my actual backend (Shopify/CRM) conversion data shows the past couple months. Not a small gap either, sometimes 20-30% off. Curious if anyone else is seein this discrepancy widen recently, or if it's just my accounts

i have been running ads for last 3 yeaars but there is no single mismatch in my meta and shopify reports. Checke carefully there must be a issue regardign your conversion tracking.

Which tracking tool are you using?

Yes, you likely made a mistake in setting up your conversion tracking and sending them to Facebook Ads.

1. Incorrect event recording settings.
2. An error occurred during the conversion transfer process.

Yeah seeing similar things lately. FB tracking looks a bit too optimistic compared to backend numbers.

I think the best way is to use Meta data for optimization, but always check the real numbers from Shopify/CRM to see the actual performance.

I've noticed similar gaps. Meta's attribution can make the numbers look better so I always compare it with actual Shopify revenue.

yeah i have also noticed this too that the numbers in Meta Ads don’t always match the actual Shopify/CRM data.

You can test with UTM tracking and a proper server-side tracking setup. Shopify/CRM data should give a clearer picture.

I have seen gaps like that with Facebook reporting, especially because Meta can attribute conversions differently from Shopify or a CRM depending on the attribution window and whether view-through conversions are included. A 20–30% difference is large enough that I would compare the same date range and attribution settings before assuming performance actually improved.

Are you seeing the gap mostly in purchase count, revenue, or both? I ask because that can help narrow down whether this is an attribution issue or something like duplicate/missing purchase values.

Also, are you using both the Pixel and Conversions API?

I ask because if event deduplication is not working correctly, Meta can sometimes report more conversions than what actually appears in the backend.

Meta Ads figures do not always align with actual revenue data from Shopify or a CRM, and Meta's revenue attribution methods can make performance appear better than it actually is. Therefore, I always cross-reference Meta Ads data with actual revenue.

I don't think the Facebook system is at fault; there were likely duplicate results or issues with the transitions between your third-party applications that led to inaccurate data.
