When they manually check your site and see a freakin` EMD MFA site, usually you don't get away with it.

It actually depends on your niche. and so far all i can say is EMD works great but sometimes it doesn't.. thats my experience

IMHO so few of things are actually "Penalized" by google...although alot of folks say otherwise...

Its simply a matter of shifting the weight of various factors in the Algo.....They give some things more weight and some things less weight towards ranking....EMD's I don't think were ever penalized...though they may have been in conjunction with other factors like crappy spammy links. I just think Google in the past gave less weight to EMD's them than they had previously.....

The chances of your site being manually checked is so small though. Don't really see what you're getting at.

I think it's just a matter of anchor texts: if your "brand name" matches your exact keyword target, you can get a little more aggressive with exact keyword anchor text linkbuilding and get away without penalties.
