So, I'm studying 2nd year I.T. I want to drop out end this year and ask my folks to fund me ~$1000/month they would spend in my tuition and other stuff. I can always complete my diploma part-time or via correspondence. I'm kinda sick of school. I plan on investing the money for 2 major passive income strategies that should work long run. Including other minor strategies.

I want to pursue IM and have the whole of 2014. So that'd be $1000 x 11 = $11000 to "play" around with, in 11 months as substitute for my 3rd year.

Any persons who've done this? :)

All I have to say is that before you quit, make sure you have a solid foundation and plan for what you're going to do with that $11,000 and more importantly how you're going to make money with those invested funds. While IM is at least for me an enjoyable career, it's not easy and takes time before you start making real money.

That sounds pretty scary, I'm pretty new to this stuff but I think you should just continue with your schooling.

If you really want to do it then you should go it alone.

Make the money yourself, don't ask your parent's to bankroll you.

The fact you say "play around with" means you are not taking things seriously.

Yes please drop school for IM. Then there will be less competition when I enter the IT industry soon.

If I were your parent I would tell you that if you drop out of school that you are on your own. They are paying for your education - and if you decide to walk away from that, don't count on anything from them. My suggestion, suck it up, stay in school and learn while you're there (and work IM on the side for that matter). If you drop out of class and you don't have a regular IM income, then you'll be working for the money and STILL won't be able to go IM full time.

Might as well stay in school where you are learning many things that could help you in your IM. (You get out of it what you put into it - in both in time and effort). If you pay attention, you will likely learn many things that will help you in your IM projects - or at least I can say I have.

    Just my .02 worth...

If your new to IM you should try finishing school and work on learning IM on your spare time before investing all that time and money into it. Especially if your not generating an income yet.

I think the more money you invest, up front, in IM, the greater your your chances of failure.
Because you're a beginner, right? $200 - $500 max to start. There are many case studies here of
people who started off with $100 or less. Eventually you might invest big numbers over
a long stretch of time and after already earning and re-investing your loads of your money. Quit school only
if you think it wise. Rely on no one's finances for IM. The FREE info in this IM College we're in is worth
tens of millions. More than that. Work it.

The more you rely on money instead of creativity and hard work the more costly your mistakes.

what happens when you get bored with IM, sure will wish you had that degree. Finish school, work on your projects part time, and then you will both the degree, and the passive income stream.

I don't think your parents will actually loan you the money for I.M. You're better off making the money on your own

your parents are paying you for school, not to "play around" with the money on the internet...

have you actually asked them if they would just give you 1k/month if you dropped out of school?

Sheez op. Im on the same boat. And what OS said is what i have been thinking all this time. Iwant to quit school, but if i do i would need to get a job as i dont earn enough rrom IM YET!!!
Once i earn enough i will quit school for sure, but not now asni dont earn enough per month. :/

So what i am planning to do these holidays is to work at least 13-15 hours every day on IM to try and make a decent earning in these last 47 days of the year!! :)

Good luck with whatever you decide OP!

IM is a bad business, think twice before taking any drastic step.

& if you do it, don't rely on your parents, get a part time job somewhere and focus on IM.

If I gambled, I would bet your parents would slap you upside the head, ask you WTF you're thinking and then say no. Don't expect them to fund this.

Telling your parents that you're leaving college for IM... And that you need $1000 per month after you drop out of college?? This is just my 2 cents, but IM should be a side thing and you should focus more on college. IM is damn risky, and you could be throwing that 11,000 a year all away when the IM game changes... Though I doubt your parents will fund you anyways. They are paying for your college and wouldn't want you to just drop out in the middle of it.

OP, I would suggest that you stay in school and get a degree. Think of college as work, you enter the school you do your job. This is what it should be, learn from it. If you will quit now, then most likely you will quit your IM career sooner or later.

Your parents are your boss, professor are your managers, and you are the employee. Think about it ;)

Hmm... Mixed emotions. The notion of having a boss and working 9-5 is daunting to me. I wouldn't have trouble convincing my folks, and they'd fund me if I use my persuasion tactics. And the play around I inserted in inverted commas, not necessarily to play around with, but you get what I mean. I was thinking I could do damage with ~$11k in 1 year although I'm a bit nooby @ this.

But then thank you for the advices and proposals... Not what I needed to hear... But I'll come up with a decision upon earnest thought and consideration, end of the day.
