I have a targeted list of ~1k people from Zoom Info. I have a hyper relevant offer that is performing quite well on email, but many of my prospects I don't have an email for so I want to try direct mail.

What is everyone doing these days for direct mail? I don't want to do a postcard. I want to do a letter.

Looks like $0.39 via USPS? Just need to create the letters.

Looking to hear from anyone who has done it recently. I haven't done bulk mail for probably 2 years.

I used to do snail mail marketing back in the day and the way to get them to open their envelope is to send your offer in a greeting card envelope.

They open those envelopes, they toss most of the other junk mail they get.

Hand written address, a real stamp, short pitch inside and several call to action options.

We worked with Direct Mail via USPS around 3 years ago for a US client - right on the heels of Covid.

https://www.usps.com/business/advertise-with-mail.htm

It was a consumer product, and a hyper local one at that - so we ended up using their EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) feature that doesn't require a set of addresses, but instead let's you choose a neighborhood and delivers your printed material to every house (and business, if chosen) in that neighborhood.

The client saw 4x RoI and since then is now a much bigger version of themselves.

There are firms such as Taradel.com, Growmail.com - who will handle this process for you end to end - from printing, to mailing it out for you.

The other alternative would be to get them printed locally, but then you'll need a system to address mark these mailers as per USPS.

My experience with mailers is that you absolutely need to "Show, not tell".

A different stock of paper, a different shape of the paper, a different size of the paper. Or like @BassTrackerBoats suggested, the mailer camouflaged as a greeting or a letter.

I'm in an older rural market, so I'm not sure if this is as applicable in urban environments. Direct mail has worked great for us, it's a great way to guarantee someone will see what you want them to see. I normally do flyers and postcards with no envelope.

This is often refered to as the 7878 method.
Yeah I was a member back then. It would be an understatement to say a lot has changed.

What are you paying per piece?

A lot has changed, but at the core, people are still curious. I'd still open an envelope if there's something inside that makes me go "WTF".
Your offer's got to be a lot better to stand out, but that type of a letter is a good "door opener" IMO.

About $0.70 USD to send them to each mailbox, about $0.35 to print (with higher quality glossy prints). $1.05 USD total.

I last used direct mail in 2018 and it was working then. I'm sure it still is now. Even easier I'd say, because today your letter can have a QR code to take them to a webpage, they can still pay instantly online. Direct mail doesn't mean not keeping up with technology, or waiting for them to send you a check in the mail!

We’ve had success with USPS First-Class letters using Lob or Postalytics—fully automated, personalized, and trackable. Cost is around $0.50–$1 per piece. Great for warm leads without email.
