Have a client who signed up for my reseller hosting, and they have a domain/hosting package with 1&1. Still waiting on a couple things from the client before I set their new site up, but I noticed something on 1&1's site stating:

"You cannot cancel hosting package and keep domain name registered with 1&1"

I sent them an e-mail..but really? This surely cannot be true. That is just horribad customer service. If so, then I'll have to get the domain transferred out and HOPE that 1&1 doesn't try to hold it hostage or delay it.

I have and have had troubles with server up time. There is a reason they are so cheap :)

Yeah thats why I want to move hosting, but have a feeling its going to be a stupid battle.

A lot of people have had trouble with 1&1 on this forum and I know a few people personally that have had trouble. Basically they will do anything and everything to try and keep you as a customer, there a terrible company. There probably is a few threads on here with some solutions, hopefully.

I think I tried them out when I first start 8 years ago. They're just you're ordinary low cost, cheap servers. Can't expect much from these types of companies! But I will vouch for Hostgator, their customer support was always good to me

I'm actually moving them to hostgator. Mainly because I get commission, and also because I've never had downtime from them.

ooo..you are in a crap right now. I have a website hosted at 1and1 a couple of months ago for less than $10 (or $11). At first everything looks ok then trouble keeps coming in. You cannot do this, cannot do that. I tried emailing the customer support and they replied crap. The website is down now but I have no intention to get it to work again. I lost a few bucks there but the lesson learn are priceless.

I recommend HG for small websites. I outgrew their hosting quick, and ended up running on 2 dedicated servers with them. Then I found a much better solution from Inmotion Hosting. They are pricey but they have top notch servers and support.

I used them for only the domain. Had issues with the domain for half a week- after that it ran smoothly for the entire promised year.

I had to sign I just to give me experience with this horrible business. Years ago I had a domain with them. I tried to cancel the auto renewal forced upon me. No option in account. I had to call in person to cancel my domain. So I canceled the credit card like what I always did with other registrars. What happens months later? A threatening email saying I owed them money. Apparently they were kind enough to register the domain again anyways and charge me with late fees...never again will I give them any business. I advise anyone reading this to stay far away from these guys. Even godaddy is 100x better.
