Anybody tested article length effects?

If your content is of high quality then I dont think word count matters.

Yes, and I often wonder why people still write 500 word articles.
I started out writing 500 word articles, but if you want to be an authority on a subject, your articles should be at least 800 words long. I make all of my articles 1000+ words. I sprinkle authority links throughout ("Here's what a trusted source says on the subject") to back up exactly what I'm saying.
My readers drink in my info and often ask me for more, because my content is lengthy and well-researched. They look to you as an authority. that means they'll keep coming back.
I've ignored Google's rules while writing these articles. I don't worry about keyword density, rank or anything like that. But I'm getting pretty good organic traffic on quite a few of these articles. So I must be doing something right.
In comparison, my shorter articles barely get any traffic. It could be that they just suck, but lengthy articles are always better for the reader. That's all I care about.
