Hey guys, trying not to keep all my eggs in one basket so was wondering if cryptocurrency and mining in particular is still a thing? I was thinking to invest into a small farm or a couple rigs to have the small income coming from mining. Any thoughts on this? I know it's not the very best time to start but as far as i know the equipment is not as overpriced as it was like a few months ago. Thanks y'all

The OP does not seem to know the current situation of crypto. Better research first.

I've heard the bubble have popped or something, but it doesn't look like it's going anywhere...

Btc at $5800 today. Good time to buy

IF I had USD 1,005,800 then I would have bought 1 BTC for sure.
Suggestion, do not go for crypto unless you want to put the money in the ocean where you can never find the money again. The suggestion is for current situation off-course.

what about not investing in crypto, but rather investing in mining? Does it make sense? Cause it's not just bitcoin, it's a whole pool of cryptocurrencies... Correct me if I am wrong tho

You can mine different currencies day by day with your GPU rig, based on which currency yields most profit that day. Or you can sell your rig hashing power to Nicehash.

mining is much more SAFE than TRADING and much more PROFITABLE than HODL.. Ofc you should seperate cash which you want to invest and do not throw all eggs into one bucket but remember that without mining it WONT exist, everything starts from mining... I've abt 75% cash from all my investments in mining (differents cryptos and separate PoW/PoS etc)... so yes it's a gr8 opportunity to make ur cashflow but its rly hard to do it by your own nowadays, actually 90% of my mining is located on companies which are making everything for me and profit is even higher than I'd do it myself :p Ofc there are always a risk that they can leave me with nothing (scam) but... who killis the goose that lays the golden eggs?? :) If you are noob in my opinion you should join to any mine instead of makin your own, good luck :)
btw. can tell you which mine I am usin (99.9% safe) but not here, cause I cant advertise mines here :) pm me if you are interested

Hi.
My suggestion is not to go with mining rigs.
The situation is like this:
  • Bitcoin goes up, altcoins go up.
  • Bitcoin goes down, altcoins go down.
If you Bitcoin goes up, you can make more money if you invest directly in altcoins.
If it goes down, it will take you 2 years to get back the money you bought the rigs. If you invest and put a stop-loss order, you won't lose that much.

Awesome guys, super informative, I need some in depth research for sure!

still.. shortin BTC isnt safe and wont be safe in next 10 years

Make sure you research really well the coin you will want to many. ASICs are starting to pop up for many coins that were GPU-friendly before (like Zcash). Ethereum is going to become hybrid PoW/PoS and then PoS in the future. As far as I can tell the best coin to mine with GPUs long term is Monero and other CryptoNote coins. But even then FPGAs can become a thing. If you have the cash you can try Bitcoin mining by buying some ASICs but your returns might be a little bit lower. I also like to speculate in altcoins because I don't belive Bitcoin will keep dominating as strongly as it has been. It will stay first, sure, but with less dominance.

I guess I wasn't enough with this craze about cryptocurrency last year smh
