    Hello, folks!

I have read the 7878 thread when it was first posted and have been planning on doing ORM for a long time now. First I made the site, then this, then that - I never really got anywhere because like many online marketers, I am used to working online and not offline with "real clients". Well, a few weeks ago I decided it was time to take action.

    - I used LocalScrapper to create a database of potential clients in 3 different industries.
    - Based on star rating I selected all businesses that has less than 4 stars ratings.
    - I tried to find their decision maker names on their websites/facebook/linked in.
    - In one industry I was able to come up with 34 decision maker names (out of 100 businesses).

Friday, October 25th I sent out 34 envelopes. In each envelope I put a letter, a print out of their reviews and of course, the dice.
Total cost: 52$ on stamps, 4$ envelopes, 4$ dice = 60$. The printing was done by a friend so he didn't charge me anything.

The letter was rewritten in my own words. I do not mention the price or the value of my service but I say something along these lines:
"We are presently offering our consultation ($347 value) completely free and with no strings attached. If you like our offer and decide to go ahead with our service - great, if not - you will get a free consultation and some ideas on how to manage your online reputation".

On Wednesday, Oct. 30 I got a first call from a business with 4 locations. Tomorrow (Friday Nov. 1st) I have a meeting with him.

    Wish me luck :)

You're taking action, so if I had to make a bet, it would be on you to succeed.

Good job man, and good luck.

"chained on our PC's" syndrome

Great job! Looking forward to more updates from you. Glad to see another person here took action and execute the method with great planning.

    No questions are stupid.
But I can't see why location of the meeting matters? When you get a call back, they are pretty much SOLD, and they are highly aware that they need help with their reputation.

@SocialMediaManager you got a point. They need to go to his office where he will feel in control.

@Argent Great for you for taking action on something. Good luck dude.

You've got the right to your opinion, although I don't agree with it.
I tell clients I do not have an office. If I get an office, I'll have to pay rent and other overhead fees which means I will have to charge my clients a bigger fee ;)

    Yep, that's the one ;)

I've got a beautiful light gray suit with a nice button up short. Shoes are shined, hair trimmed :) I do believe that making a good first impression is very important ;)

    Thanks, Danny!
Motivating others is one of my goals here. 7878 and others who took action motivated me - now it's my turn ;)

Well, I had the meeting this morning.

Before starting the presentation I asked the guy what his role was and he said that he menages all the marketing operations and takes decisions at 5 different location.
So I went on. We talk for 1h45min. He loved what I offered. When I asked him how much he would be willing to pay for such service - he hesitated for a while and then said: "I dunna, $4k per month, per location?"

    Eventually I presented him with 3 offers;
$1500 one time set up fee.
and a monthly plan of $1500, $2000 or $2500 depending on the options (per location). I said we could figure out different pricing if they sign all 5 locations.

He said the price is fair and the service seems incredibly interesting... HOWEVER, he is not the one that sign the cheques... :(
The owner of the business shows up once a month for an internal meeting with managers and he will be the one making the decision.

He asked me to e-mail him a proposal, a "review card" and a few other things, he will present it to his boss and try to get another meeting with me...

So yep, it is not a sale but hopefully there will be another meeting with them.

Congratz for the smooth meeting. Seems like you've planted the seed and just 1 step away from closing the deal.

In most cases, if you have some references and scripts to show them exactly how it works, it will increase the possibility to close even faster. Not everyone buys a concept/theory.
