Another Google Update on It's way

To be honest, this notion is flawed. What I'm saying is you can proactively do SEO well within the limits defined by Google while still being white hat. If you consider all things SEO gray hat or black hat, then the word white hat loses its meaning.

I think it's implicit here that the "white hat" headroom is designed to keep you in a safe zone where you'll never break through.

All the well known "white hats" you see out there at some point did what we call "black hat" today.

Google is f**** with us

They dont announce massive updates, and announce fake updates. They want randomness and chaos in everything trying to push every business to their ads

Serps changes doesn't have names or any noticable factor. They just s*** and make no sense

For those who have dropped, do you have a plan (or broad ideas) to get back on top?

Any thoughts for a buddies site:

Ranking still in #1 position, in a very difficult health niche (across multiple keywords)

But Organic Traffic has been cut in half

One idea that has been kicking around, that Google changed its ads format, so more people are clicking on the ads w/o realizing.

What troubled me though is the suggestion that its political stance may have impacted this. Unless the politics are extreme, it sets a trend that this and other views can tank a site

maybe with all the election crap in US, and the issue of people wanting google and facebook to take a stronger stance against fake news, they are hitting that daily website.

So you believe Sandy Hook parents faked their children’s deaths, and deserved death threats?

While believing Daily is a reputable news org?
Not sure if you meant to quote me in that post, but no, I don't believe that they deserved it.
The Daily Mail is a piece of shite. What I was meaning that any publication that G doesn't approve of may be treated less than favourably. I was only using the political thing because that's what it's most known for (well that and the psuedo science). Or it may be related to the link tax that was supposed to be getting rolled out.

Anyway, the situation just now is a bit bleak for quite a lot of those in the finance niche. I had got out of it years ago after seeing how competitive it was becoming.

Nah, I'm at the cottage with crappy wifi, I was having issues posting and was trying to reply to InfinityPeace.

Its so easy to get nerdsnipped into political nonsense.

I'm on tech niche. 80% Keywords are still ranking but 50% of traffic been lost. I think it's due to the loss in ranking for the relevant keywords.

My blog traffic got spiked up on may 21 & 22. The same has been revoked in this June update.

Is this update favors authority sites? Not exactly. I can see new sites are now ranking number 1 without backlinks.

I don't know how long it will take to identify what was really happened.

I consider SEO a zero sum game. For you that do not know what a zero sum game is, it means that in order for you to "win", someone else has to lose. If your traffic or your rankings dropped, someone else gained them.
Now my question is, who the heck benefited from this update and why?!

Really well said. Changes of Google algorithms affect on search results and websites order in it, but don't affect on quantity of people doing searches every day. People search same, just find different results with Google updates.

SEO is a negative sum game. Google can (and does) make changes that reduce clicks on organic results, so that everyone loses.

Except google. Google always wins.

Looks like there is a focus on more ads and local businesses. Everything above the fold are ads and half the rest on page 1 are G widgets.

My traffic got reduced by half on June 7th. Anyone from Canada noticed a traffic decrease yesterday?

Google still updating my many sites down and some come up we are waiting for next changing of google then make new strategy

SEO is zero sum as long as the number of keywords is finite.

With infinite keywords, it's not zero sum. You can lose 1 position to a kw but earn 1000 on different combinations that others haven't thought of.

Yep, further reduction of organic results, looks like next year we will be relegated to page 2 and beyond, front page will be full pay to play :/

Makes you wonder though, what use is Google to the end user? If they are going to make it pay 2 play, then it means people won't find business for free, meaning the end product and services prices will rise higher as companies will have to pay to gain visibility. The end user will get shafted, it will be possible to reach customers for cheaper using traditional advertising or through brick and mortar visibility, or perhaps direct mail marketing (mailbox). I think soon there will be a business model such as low prices + referral and word of mouth, because you can offer something for super low prices if you aren't paying advertising in Google or elsewhere. Team up with another company to offer their promotional product $10 or so in value to people who refer their friends to your business + word of mouth will spread since you can offer a low priced product. If google continues with this pay to play model, they will be no better than regular brick and mortar business, when people catch on that the results Google returns are all high priced products, businesses, and services because they have to pay for the ads in the price of their goods in order to make a profit, consumers will stop using Google and start finding businesses via word of mouth and shop direct on websites.

Google will basically create their own downfall by getting too greedy.

Websites with content quality issues, as well as too many ads, seemed to be impacted the most by updates. Especially if it has to do with ranking

My site get hit in this update, all of the keywords went down 3-4 position, I am in software niche.
I am also waiting for solution to recover the ranking..
