Anonymous IP Address, help

Im looking for a free to download software that will change my IP address. So that it appears Im someone else and not myself online.

Does anyone have anything like this, that is effective and user friendly?

I would suggest using Tor.

You'll also want to use proxifier to prevent leaks of your IP address.

Certain applications like flash and Java can cause your IP to leak even though you're using Tor or a chain of proxies. Redirecting through proxifier will prevent this.

Try google search for "Tor" and one for "proxifier" Tor is free and proxifier can be found on a warez site.

That should be all you need.

You could also use proxifier with a proxy that you scanned but then the proxies will go bad quickly and it's inconvenient for everyday use.

visit any public proxy sites and collect the ip addresses. Run them though my free proxy checker

Try a readily available program called "Ghost Surf". Around $30 at your friendly local Office Depot, Best Buy or Office Max. Lets you run through completely anonymous proxies. Different proxy on each startup and you can even change proxies without restart of you box.

I use it and the IPs are really cool!

One day I was coming out of Kabul, Afghanistan!

The trace routes are pretty much circular and go no where if you have configured the program properly.

Has a couple of neat tools and spyware protection as well!

The $30 sure saves you a lot of time and trouble!

Couple questions could use some help on.

I've been trying to get help with proxies myself because my ip does not seem to change.

I've used Novas ideas above with no luck. my ip still shows.

is restarting or powering off and back on needed to get ip to change?

Lastly..why should we trust these ips or proxies we use at all?

we have no idea who they are or what they may be doing behind the scenes.

This is something i've never seen a discussion on but is there a security issue involved with using these FREE access proxies?

Also good to see they discuss how it's not fool proof and what to be aware of.

Interestingly i think i got Ghost surf free when i bought and external hardrive couple years ago.

at the time i did not see why would need it. LOL

think i'll look for it tomorrow

the problem with tor is its really slow and most of the ips it uses are banned on most places anyways...

Ok, I am admittedly a fan of Ghost Surf as it is inexpensive, effective and reliable. It does not slow me down one bit when surfing.

You must remember to configure your box to run EVERYTHING through the proxy or as was mentioned by another poster, the proxy will drop and you are nailed!

On occasion you must lower the level of security to download but you can raise it right back up when you are finished.

I am given to understand that some open or free proxies are set up solely for the purpose of stealing the private data of those using them so someone else might reflect on this if you know anything about it.

I am not near any of those places!

Do most of you hide your ip for the purpose of say creating multiple accounts? I do no email or spam of any kind but had a few profiles deleted today, no not myspace. None of them were created using any kind of proxy.

If it's just for anonymous browsing, posting, etc., use a site like:

hxxp://proxy.org

There are many different type of web proxies from various countries.

However, if it's for something a little more serious, I'd stick with TOR. Yeah, it's slow, but it's a lot more secure than some of these other proxy programs. I think the problem with some of those programs is that if the proxy stops working while you're surfing, your real IP can be exposed. However, with TOR, if it stops working, you just won't be able to access a site.

I really like XeroBank Browser. It has a free browser that runs off the TORPark network, is already bundled with Firefox, and if any servers are blocked, you can hit the "Flush TOR Circuit" button, and it will use other servers.

Actually most sites simple check for Privoxy as its much easier to detect and 99% of users use the Tor+privoxy+vidalia bundle
