Ok, I am admittedly a fan of Ghost Surf as it is inexpensive, effective and reliable. It does not slow me down one bit when surfing.
You must remember to configure your box to run EVERYTHING through the proxy or as was mentioned by another poster, the proxy will drop and you are nailed!
On occasion you must lower the level of security to download but you can raise it right back up when you are finished.
I am given to understand that some open or free proxies are set up solely for the purpose of stealing the private data of those using them so someone else might reflect on this if you know anything about it.
