Child labor is not necessarily a negative thing. Exploitation isn't necessarily a negative thing. I wouldn't generally speak out against Child labor, because there are too many variables involved that I know NOTHING about, and I am sure you know nothing about it in detail either. So in that sense, it IS somewhat similar to SOPA.

If children were not allowed to work in third world countries, I am sure many of them would starve to death. In some 3rd world countries, a 10 year kid is probably a lot more physically capable of earning income to purchase food for his family, then a 50 year old man is. Why would you speak out against allowing a capable person from making money to feed their family?

So yes, please do NOT speak out against child labor without doing some more research on the subject.

I absolutely do. I live in a 1st world country, and I have had to know several children who lied about their age to get a job, because their parents were too irresponsible to afford groceries to feed them, so they needed to secretly work to buy food for themselves. I don't understand why ANYONE would have an issue with a child who wants to work to support his family.

If you make it illegal for children under a certain age to be employed, then many of them have no choice but to turn to illegal industries, such as manufacturing or selling drugs, and prostitution, theft, or simple begging. People require money to live, to afford food and shelter. If you deny them the right to take on legitimate employment, then you give them no choice.

I don't know about you, but given the choice between starving to death, prostitution or making shoes... My choice is obvious.

Now, about that SOPA. Do you want to state your opinion, or continue to post thick headed replies that make you look like a fool?

The sole purpose of Corporations is profit. They have no feelings, just purpose. That's the way capitalism works. The ultimate goal of any corporation is to reach the top, and make sure that A) They Stay there and B) No competitors get there.

You cannot ask for corporations to change their purpose, or to have morals or feelings, or to tame their hunger. They only see opportunities and risks. What you can do is demand that your government regulates them so they don't reach their ultimate goal. Regulation and administration are government's tasks. Corporations acquiring too much power aren't to blame, it only means they weren't properly regulated and thus were able to reach the goals they're created to pursue. You can also vote with your wallet and by creating awareness, thus making the risks too high, both in terms of image and in loss of profits. These are the variables they care about.

Tl;dr: It's only logical for corporations to seek whatever helps them make more profit. Just let them know they won't get it if they follow that particular route, and they shall recant (Hello, GoDaddy?).

My god man, are you really that thick headed and ignorant? Do you even understand the reasoning behind opposing child labor? The issue is that people would like to see the parents of these children working, and the children having the opportunity to go to school and get an education. Of course, that seems ideal. But what if school is not available, and the childs parents are not physically capable of work? What if the only way a child can live with their family, and feed their family is to work?

I would like you to watch this video. This is a man who never received a proper education. He was working manual labor since age of 7. His parents couldn't afford food lots of the time. He has since grown up to be a very productive member of society and though his lack of education will limit what he can achieve, he will be able to live a life full of much happiness, simply because he survived.

Now, I want you to understand that if there if a child serves no purpose, doesn't provide anything, then it gives no incentive for adults to feed, clothe and shelter them. They are left to die. So, would you rather see more children NOT ALLOWED to work, and left to starve or forced into a life of prostitution and drugs? Or children LEGALLY making money doing manual labor? Because school just ISN'T an option for many children in the world.

Why even post that? Nowhere did I say I WANT children to be FORCED into labor. But I would like the RIGHT for children to seek legal employment, when school is not an option. If a child has to choose between working in a factory, or starving to death, you want them to starve to death. Simple as that.
