do you have access to screaming frog? search for the top site in your niche and see how they have done their anchor text for internal link building
my 2 cents: i dont recommend diversifying because you might confuse google.... i dont have any facts around this. using screaming frog for this would be a good place to start

The type of links you are dealing with doesn't matter, whether they are external or internal . Make the anchor text relevant as possible.
And if you don't know what to put in the anchor text, you can just leave them naked.

You have to make sure the interlinking and the anchor text look natural. You should not confuse google for giving priority pages of your own site.
You can use more keyword-rich anchor text in internal link building. But that you can't do in external link buildings.
I will not recommend you to use generic keywords as anchor text in internal links. But you have to be very careful about keyword stuffing.

Keyword stuffing is not an issue as long as the anchor text is readable and don't look ridiculous.

Never though about this. Personally I think it won't affect over-optimization and you can use main keywords with no shame.

I’m sure internal anchor text will be a factor just like external anchor text - I believe Google look primarily at relationship of pages rather than focusing on domains.
That being the case, diversification of internal anchor text is important.

In my opinion, the most important thing is whether visitors click the internal links. On page quality indicators (such as time on site and bounce rate) are quite underestimated in SEO circles...

Internal anchor text should be exact / LSI. There's no reason to use anything else when linking internally. You can't get penalized for having too many exact match internal anchors. If anything, it helps Google determine what the page is about.
Source: I internal link the shit out of everything and make a lot of money.

Exactly correct. And furthermore why anybody would have the same link twice in a single page (for those anchor texts to be different)? Wouldn't a simple 'as I already shared earlier' writing will suffice?!
Its okay rather than putting a irrelevant anchor text or a wrong one.
