Anchor Text Question

I have been heavily diversifying my backlink anchor text since penguin hit. As well as using a wide range of sites and types of sites for those links, d0follow, nofollow, low PR, high PR etc etc. Something I've been pondering though is, when I come across an opportunity to place a really high value link to my site, should I use my keyword as the anchor text if possible? Or will I get just as much benefit from just using say, a naked url in that link (as this will inevitably look more natural in some circumstances).

So what I'm asking is, if that isn't too clear: Does Google give more of a serp boost for a particular keyword, if it finds a high PR, relevant page with a d0-follow link using said keyword as anchor text, or does it calculate serps based on general anchor text profile regardless of a particular link's value. If that makes sense? Thanks!

Follow the same process you are using in your initial sentence when you come across a high value link... diversify, diversify, diversify your anchors as well as have the naked link.

Right, thanks. I only ask because I sometimes find it very hard to find a really great page where I can post such a high value link for certain niches, so want to make sure I make the most of it when I do! I guess what you're saying makes sense though, keep things looking natural.

Anchor text still plays a major role for search engines to determine the relevance of the content, so when you're link building it's still important to use your keyword as anchor text. HOWEVER, after all this Panda/Penguin bullsh!t, you shouldn't exceed more than 40-50% for a keyword and mix up your link profile with other relevant keywords and stuff like "click here", "check out this out", etc.

After the penguin update layered linking makes more sense. As SEOKebab said, diversify and make sure to manage a 50% or so ratio.

If you SEO and used anchor text, must see that competition keyword?

Id recommend using a 70% ratio of random anchors like "click here" or root url and 30% mix of your target keywords

Now with the penguin i am lowering the main anchor % more. just wanna play safely till some new standard post penguin rules will be applied

You can but you should not use your naked links, and yes you can use keyword as the anchor text but not too many cause doing this will reduce you link diversity. I hope you have understood me well. Thanks..
