I know a lot of people are trying to create more diversity in their anchor text now. So I figured I would put a list up of some of the more common generic anchor's.

Thanks for the ideas.

I would add that when building links with these types of anchor text, it's important to include relevant keywords close to the link within the copy.

It's best to pick a keyword domain first for link building and then 301 it to a brand when you get to the top. This way you can link naturally with your full domain and get the keywords / natural aspect.

Natural is more important lately. Too many specific anchor texts and it seems you get filtered. Not to be confused with penalised because as soon as your anchors are more diverse the filter is gone.

As usual click here is in the top of the list.

If using a list like this in SEO software, it's also a good idea to copy/paste the common ones like "Click here" and the URL one a few times so they show up more often. I do this with Scrapebox and some online services.

Great point!

I was doing some research on an old 10 year old website with 100% pure WH backlinks, he didn't build a single link for seo. The anchor text "website" was the most used.

I recently checked one of my competitors and found the same, they are #1 for just about every term in my niche but when I looked at their anchors virtually every one was the URL or the company name. Couldnt find one single keyword.

In my option a link is a link, if your onpage is good then let google work out what you should rank for.

Who links to a site by a keyword, it's just not natural.

Also keep in mind if linking a EMD the kw is linked straight in with a plain Jane url link which is kind of an extra benefit to EMD's

You must don't read cnn and the huffington post online?

While your point is very valid, he does make a good point too. Other than websites like that, the majority of people either link with:

Website

http://yoururl.com

and if it is not 1 of those 3 it is still more likely they use another generic anchor than your specific keyword.

One of the easiest ways for Google to penalize people via algorithm is to look at the % difference between generic anchors vs. keyword specific anchors.

Nice start, also just going to GKWT and grabbing a ton of your other anchor helps. I also like pulling the title tag.
