Hello all,

I just discovered that a particular site I'm working on has been over optimized for a certain anchor text. All other keywords are on #1-#4 on page one of Google.

But this particular one bounces between page two and three without bulging despite all Off-page activities done to it.

How would you think I should dilute the anchor? The anchor currently stands at 20% while those of my main competitors are less than 10%. I'm thinking of either:

1. Getting a new related domain name and redirecting it to it. ( The anchor was overused on the homepage, this might be seen as a soft 404 by Google)
2. Getting a sitewide link
3. Building more backlinks with a different anchor ( This will definitely take a lot of time)

Kindly help with suggestions.

I've seen this proposed in the past, though the guy who started the thread didn't completely follow through and I have no personal experience with diluting the anchors with 301. It might work, but there is a pretty good chance that you screw that site up even more.

Best thing to do here is not to get overoptimized in the first place.

I would not touch the sitewide links and probably would go with option number three. Getting overoptimized is easy, getting out of it is not. This is imo a number 1 reason why people have issues ranking sites. Feel free to try the redirect technique, I am very curious about that.

I tried the option 3 on an over-optimized website, it is 4+ months and nothing has changed. Only saw a slight movements and nothing more.
Still thinking of diluting the anchors with more links.

Wow, What kind of links have you been using for the dilution? Comment, web 2.0, PBN? ....

How many main keywords are you using the one that needs dilution?

Let's assume that my main keyword is ''shitty SEO''

The homepage of the site is currently ranking on Page 1 for LT keywords such as best shiity SEO, Red Shitty SEO, Arrow Shitty SEO etc.

But it is sitting on Page 2/3 for the main Keyword ''shitty SEO'

Off-Page wise, I have incredible niche relevant backlinks from lots of superb websites and my backlink profile is great compared to those of my competitors. In fact, most of them are ranking with just comment backlinks alone.

On-page wise, KD/ TF- IDF is also okay,

The only pointer I can see now is that Anchor text ratio for ''Shitty SEO'' is about 20% while that of my competitors is lesser than that hence the need for dilution

I am using the typical all-in-one seo service on BHW. Which usually comprises of web2.0s, citation, press release, infographics. et al.
