After reading php builts thread on authority site building here: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...diot-proof-guide-authority-site-building.html

I kinda thought, lets do it!

So, i'm gonna take the ideas in that thread and apply them to a niche i know quite well. I really want to see if i can build a pretty decent authority blog from nothing in about 90 days. I will try and leave a post here every day with ranking increases and the stuff i'm doing to promote my new website.

    DAY 1

So today i got working and did the following:

    • Bought a brand new domain name with no partial matches or anything, this is gonna be a brand not an emd.
    • Added a 650 word article with some pictures and a video in it plus a link to a national newspaper running a story on the subject i'm writing about.
    • Took some time cleaning it up and making sure it's optimised as the thread suggests.
    • Created a Facebook / Twitter page and tweeted the link.
    • Bought a handful of Facebook likes / Twitter tweets to be sprinkled in over the next week or so.
    • Posted two links to my site, both from authority sources that should provide a trickle of forum traffic to get me started.
    • Created a comment on the article with some additional information and a great link to an authority website.

I have set aside £1000 (All my figures are in £GBP btw) for the project and so far i've spent:

    - £8.99 on a .com domain for a year
    - £3.50 on monthly hosting
    - £6.50 on Fiver Gigs
    Total = £18.99

I might do a little PR for this project too. See how the budget goes first!

It's 14:51 in the UK right now, time for a well earned cuppa tea and a smoke!

    Hi,

Good luck in your journey ;) I suggest you followings:

1-) Everyday try to get high PR backlinks (mostly do-follow) the amount is not important, do your best.
2-) Give ads to related websites and get targeted traffic. (You can use Facebook Ads too it is good about targeted traffic)
3-) Apply all standart basic SEO rules such as sitemap, etc. (You can find in Google)
4-) Unique content is gold. Share your content in Social Media by giving link to your website.

For now these are in my mind ;)

I'm trying to stay away from adverts and buying high PR backlinks. I'm pitching this thread at those who have a small budget and can't go spending £1000's on PPC to launch something.

Everything else i am doing though, thanks for the advice.

For this project i'm defining authority as:

    1. Ranks for multiple long tails within it's niche.
    2. Gets a reasonable bit of forum / blog / social network traffic.
    3. Is starting to garner it's own social following and comments.
    4. Starting to have people linking to it without me asking.
    5. There is one national forum with a section devoted to my niche. If my website is mentioned there by a member of the general public i'm gonna call that an authority signal too. Might not mean anything to Google but to myself and my niche it's a pretty good milestone to aim for.

Btw i know £1000 is a fair amount of startup money. I just wanted to assign a round value to the project and know i have it there as a war chest. Tbh it's unlikely i'll use most of the £1000, most of my builds come in at under £500 particularly in this niche.

Excuse the ignorance, but I didn't want to make a thread about it.
    What is an authority site?

I'd also link your inner pages with a silo structure if you don't plan on building links. Almost all authority sites use this structure because it flows and passes PR perfectly. If you pick low/medium comp kws you wont need any link building or very little.

    Day 2

Nothings been indexed so far although Google has crawled a few times so it's gonna come eventually.

    Today i'm gonna:

    1. Write another blog post and Tweet / Facebook it.
    2. See if i can find a good forum link or somewhere to post a link to the post.
    3. Set myself up on Google webmaster tools and submit my sitemap.

I'm gonna do one research on a new authority forum i'm a member of today. See if a nice juicy thread is happening where i can get a link from.

Do I understand it correctly that when you interlink from page A to page B, the linkjuice of A will be shared with B? So for niche sites, where you target one main KW and couple of LSI´s, you should not interlink from the pages you are targeting (because you primarily want those to rank), while building an authority you should interlink because you want to rank as many pages a spossible?

Funny you should mention that. I did toy with the idea of creating a tightly focused CMS with blog like features.

I might do this in the future if i need to play with affiliate feeds and stuff.

For the moment i'm happy blogging and building everything up.
