If you live in the London area what would you say to an American thinking of moving there for a few years? I am a soccer (football) lover so that does influence it =].
As for money I would be getting a job but I also have low xx,xxx passive annual income that can help support me during the transition.

Unless you earn over 200K a year, don't bother. Nothing interesting here, women are all overweight. Everyone's in a rush to work, stressful place to live. Weather is shit, property in expensive. Traffic everywhere, even in the congestion zone. People are rude and inconsiderate. Look out for thieves. too many low life people on drugs.

On a positive note: ummm you could go ride the millennium wheel for 40 minutes and look at the river and old buildings, zzzz.

London does nothing for me personally, but that's just my opinion. Go to a beach in an exotic country and enjoy life while doing internet marketing. You could always watch an Arsenal game on cable TV.

Good luck though, you might like it here. I know plenty of career minded people that do.

OP, you just need to try other places in the UK. London isn't the only city here that's worth living in. I love the UK, having lived abroad for 4 years, it's fucking awesome. Fathom you need to get out more. London is a shit place, I agree, but if the OP has £6kpm then he doesn't really need a job as that will be more than enough to be comfortable. If he lives somewhere other than London, even Essex which is less than an hour from 'the Golden City of Tossers', then £6kpm will be awesome.

If you come further north, yes the weather is crap but the scenery is awesome, the people are friendly and will talk to (at) you for hours and housing is damn cheap, compared to NYC (I only reference NYC as I have a friend that lives there).

OP: what are you looking for from moving to the UK? What are your hobbies, interests, etc etc? Answer those and we can give you alternatives to London so you get the most out of living here. You can always travel/visit London, which I believe is far better than living there. Every time I've been to London, I wanna puke. My brother lives there now and loves it. He's always been materialistic, though, which is what I believe turns you in London - I have friends that have moved there and now I don't speak to them as they are just so different and fake, it's unreal.

I'm surprised that ppl from UK talk about UK like that.

Well, London is (must be) a very expensive place to live, that's for sure, I love the city, it's beautiful but if I were to move to UK, I would choose Ireland or Scotland, any small village with good Internet connection and a night-bar will do the job.

My advice, watch http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0385002/ movie before you set sails :p

Haha i have seen green street a few times which i love. What mainly interests me about London is the football, night life, and just the culture in general. I guess mainly the football because i've been debating about trying to play lower level professional in europe if i can finish my college career playing well.

So I Googled Chav because I don't know what it means. Now I'm more confused than before:

chav Picture this a young lad about 12 years of age and 4 ½ feet high baseball cap at ninety degrees in a imitation addidas tracksuit, with trouser legs tucked into his socks (of course, is definitely the height of fashion). This lad is strutting around, fag in one hand jewellery al over the over, outside McDonalds acting as if he is 8 foot tall and built like a rugby player, when some poor unsuspecting adult (about 17/18) walks round the corner wanting to go to mcdonalds for his dinner glances at the young lad, the young lad jumps up in complete disgust and says “Whats your problem? Wanna make sommin of it? Bling Bling” when the adult starts to walk towards the young lad, the young lad pisses himself and runs off to either his pregnant 14-year-old girlfriend or his brother in the army crying his eyes out.

My mate has become a chav what can i do? answer is shoot him before it is too late

I wish you guys from the other side of the pond spoke better English :D

I would recommend you visit London for a month or two to get a feel for it. Generally speaking it can be a great place but at the same time not so much. Different strokes for different folks. What I like about the place is the freedom and opportunities it has to offer. As a multicultural city it is very relaxed in the sense that most people mind their own business. Everything is easily accessible, public transport is very good, and your rather safe if you mind your own business and don't go walking around unknown territory during late hours.

Give Yorkshire a try! There is a reason why it has been chosen as the starting point of the Tour de France, it is just an awesome place.

Check it out here - http://letour.yorkshire.com/

You can also get a direct train to London if you get the urge every now and then.

I live in downtown LA and studied abroad in London for 6 months. It was a great experience but not sure I would like to live there, at least coming from California. The cost of living is higher, the weather (depressing), petty crime seemed to be higher (pickpockets!), the flats are expensive and tiny (200 - 300 sqft efficiency's) compared to the U.S apartments (400 - 600 sfqt efficiency's) as we call them.

Personally it would depend on where in the U.S you currently live, for example if you in Detroit then it would be a hell of an upgrade.
