Intel has been destroying AMD in performance since like 2008.

Yeah, anything like this will be good with a notebook computer. You will not be using it for games, so as long as the price is right, I would be OK with it.

Having said that, I have never owned anything other than Intel. If you were playing games or rendering video, I would have someone else answer that.

    Check this out.

My wife use to have an AMD and while it was ok for her I was a little impatient with it. Its definitely slower in performance than intel. But if your ok with it being slower it is not a bad processor.

IMO AMD is better for graphics , If you are a designer or a vfx guy then go for AMD

    Still, this is questionnable :/.

AMD GFX hardware is way better that's a fact, but their drivers suck heavy balls....

To answer OP question, it depends what CPU it is. Intel is litterally destroying AMD even though Intel is more expensive.

However, we came to a point where CPU are way ahead the usage you may have. If you don't do 3D modeling, video conversion daily, or any app which requires calculation, you'll be fine with most of the processors of the market. (medium range of Intel , medium-high from AMD)

EDIT : I have just read, dual core will be fairly short.

I am not an expert in this field but I have heard that AMD processors have a little shorter lifespan. Despite that they are much cheaper than Intel's and you can definitely build a high end computer with an AMD processor.

To be honest, I am planning to upgrade my Intel's e8400 dual core with an AMD's quad core CPU as soon as I get some money.

Try and get a quadcore. You can run much more stuff at the same time

Can you explain how the CPU determines graphics quality?...
It's like saying "go with a v8 if you want cleaner windshields"

Thought you said earlier it was dual core. I have an amd quad core machine and the processor is excellent. Very good for running multiple tasks. If I was buying a new laptop tomorrow I would go for an intel i7 but if the amd machine is good value then it's a good chip

The new AMD Bulldozer chips are good from AMD, I have a AMD Quad core desktop and thats pretty fast and reliable.

Not sure how this would compare in a laptop for example :)

My current laptop (The one i'm using) uses a i5 intel chip but it runs hot all the time and it whirs like a washing machine on spin cycle LOL

It depends on what you plan doing with your laptop. AMD is much better for gaming, while Intel is a bit more powerful when it comes down to the number of calculations/operations. But honestly, the processor nowadays matters little to none. What is definitely more important is the RAM and with 8 GB you should be good to go for the next 3-4 years easily, unless you are doing some sort of 3D modelling.
