Unfortunately, you can't be an Amazon affiliate in some USA states. These states want to collect taxes so Amazon dropped them like a hot potato. I hear it will probably take a Federal bill to settle it and change it. In the meantime, use his principles on something like commission junction. It's the best you can do if you live in a blocked state.
No I do not use combined sites - I make sites differently for different programs
The Adsense trial is just to see how well my process translates over - and how much it makes - it maybe a failure or not obviously cannot tell yet.
And just as Proffit says - you can try this in other ways - it's just I can't tell you what works and what doesn't doing that because I have not done it ... I love Amazon because there are never payment problems the money comes every month - and that to me is very important - you can't build a business when you don't know when your payments are coming or you gotta chase them all the time.

Best strategy is not to build a site that is dependent on buying links -- this = long term bad and probably at some point - loss of all rankings.
Everything in this thread had been suggesting - nice site - unique content - nice sliders - seo plug ins - modding themes - and then adding other touches such as a youtube video -- twitter/facebook or Pinterest
depending on what your overall Amazon Strategy is - up to this point I have been all Seo - but just lately done some Pinterest with some nice sales -- due to products being luxury and distinctive - so that if your looking for these - once you see them you would buy.
there is no shortcuts I know of to build a site today and make $1000 tomorrow in Seo - it takes 2-3 months to start getting sales - that's just a fact.
also if you have read the thread then you know that moving away from WP into other structures such as Magento has shown to provide all kinds of challenges to generate alot of Sales.
read the thread / study some other amazon threads and arrive at a strategy that fits your budget, your knowledge and how you can make some money most importantly.

People using free Blogger / Having no tools at all / don't have .com domains -- are going to struggle -- there is no sugar coating it - you may need 1,000 blogger sites to make $600 a month and then at some point Google will just delete them anyway.... and your earnings will fall away.
You really need a plan / strategy and stick to something that you can do with the knowledge you have - and then execute it -- no-one is perfect you may need to tweak it / change it ..... to optimize sales but that is all part of it.

My traffic is all google search - lately I have added Pinterest Marketing as a test
and yes this thread is about taking action and trying to provide long term income --- it is not spamming affiliate links / its not immediate income tomorrow -- but it shows you what you need to do - to make consistent monthly income from SEO.
If you have a better way to do things / have better tools to do something -- or are better using Social Networks then by all means do that and don't try this slower way.

Just to give you a guide of how I run my operation with these 45 sites (32 WP and 13 Magento)
On one screen I have WP CMS Commander (free) - which allows me to control the WP Sites from one interface ... I also have addmefast and a simple UBot which scrolls through my sites to make sure there is no problem with them. (Ubot $200 + $4.99 a month)
Next Screen has multiple instances of PinPioneer running - Liking / Commenting / Following and Uploading ($44.95 + $30 for accounts)
also scrapebox is here but not being used at the moment (SB $60)
Next screen has Ultimate Demon Running posting stuff out onto Web 2.0's at the moment. (UD $300)
I use the software Input Director to have one mouse and keyboard control 2 PC's and the VPS. (Input Director free)
On the VPS I have : UD / Captcha Sniper / Doc Marketing Robot / another copy of Pinpioneer / Get Article and HMA
also these tools have access to SpinnerChief. (UD $300 / CS $77 / DMR $49 / Pin $25 / Get Article $47 / HMA $55 a year / Spinnerchief $147 one time)
So this is how this project is run on a daily basis :: while it's running now I am going to the gym.

Honestly you can pick any niche of products and make it work
Kids Toys : wooden toys, construction toys, mechanical toys, plastic toys, under 5 toys, made in usa toys you name it - find one you like and build a site and specialize in it .... people say this doesn't work that doesn't work -- it's BS -- the only thing is some things sell better than others -- products popularity goes up and down - and some niches go red hot - due to some news or new ads or a celebrity uses it.
this is just an example of course...... if your starting out try to stick to things people have to have .... avoid really technical specialty things like nuwave ovens for example.

1) Where do you mention you are an affiliate on your websites? I typically mention it once on my About page.
2) Do you use buttons to place your affiliate links (e.g. learn more, more pictures, order now, etc), or do you use text links? Traditionally I have used text links and also links in pictures but I'm currently experimenting with using custom buttons
3) How many WP themes do you rotate? Do you just stick with 1-3 themes for all your WP sites?
