Thanks XOskillet, for getting back to the thread. Bummer you got removed, but now you can modify, and then rinse and get going again.
I'm sure the violations had to do with the redirect links, as that is against their TOS I was just reading. The links need to be clearly identifiable as Amazon links. No URL shortners, etc.

Try to read up on all the info available here about amazon on the forum, and other places. Check out old techniques as well. There has been a massive rush by affiliates to start promoting Amazon products this year so the competition is getting tougher. But Amazon sells millions of dollars of products almost every hour. So do your homework, make quality sites, with original reviews- as far as Google is concerned.
Don't recommend buying those WSO Amazon templates. Make yourself more original. Some of the plugins are good, but you must offer more content as well.
There is a lot of money to be made with Amazon, but don't just copy the ideas from any 'gurus' selling product. Put your own spin on it and you will make some money

I totally agree with you litenup about original content to lobby for top, organic search engine traffic. However, I was reviewing their "Associates Program Participation Requirements
Terms of Service", and I came across the following, I'd be curious to find out what everyone else thinks:
8. You will not add to, delete from, or otherwise alter any Content in any way, including by adding additional information (e.g., you may not insert words into a customer review), except that you may resize Content consisting of a graphic image in a manner that maintains the original proportions of the image or truncate Content consisting of text in a manner that does not materially alter the meaning of the text or cause the text to become factually incorrect or misleading.

when trying to rank webpages for a certain amazon product what keywords do you aim for? like do you just go straight for the product's specific name only, or try to rank for "product name + review" or other things ?
It depends on the product and competition - but definitely focus on "buying" keywords if you are just starting out.

While I've managed to get a handle of most affiliate networks / schemes I have to admit I've never managed to achieve more than the most meagre of results from Amazon. Has anyone managed to make their sole revenue on a site from Amazon?

Videos work great for increasing traffic. I have several sites up and those with youtube videos bring the most traffic. I use Proshow Gold for making my videos and it really does increase conversions.

you sent a message but due to post counts I couldn't reply. I focus mainly on review sites for products at least $100 or more. I am using the WordPressReviewTheme and basically just replace the header and colors. I rewrite the product description and benefits and then summarize the consumer reviews. Listing pro's and con's for each product also helps. Links to Amazon are through text as well as photos. The theme comes with instructions on how to use. Hope this helps.
