When I choose "Yesterday" it shows me only the orders which are generated this day, right? Or are the shipped items from a day before?

I have been using Amazon for quite some time now and have had much success with it. As a matter of fact, it is one of my biggest earners. I have literally set up simple niche review sites that had many highly ranked pages and make plenty of money with low traffic.
The key here is pages. Pages rank and sites do not. When you are affiliate marketing, especially with review sites on niche products, it is important to focus on ranking each page. This will get you plenty of traffic and high conversions. I want targeted traffic that is looking to buy a product(s) and I want them to get to Amazon as quickly as possible. I incorporate videos of the product in use on my pages and this helps each page to outrank competitive reviews.
My site pages often have secondary product recommendations in the content that drive even more conversions themselves. The added item recommendations help reinforce my quality original content (not spun or scraped).
All this is done by sounding like I am the authority on that product and its use. Visitors are simply given a link to Amazon where they may purchase the product. Often, they don't purchase the item within 24 hours but instead bookmark the item. This gives a 24 hr cookie plus an additional 89 days to receive credit when they buy (as long as they don't clear their browser cookies).
Another method that I have not mentioned here is that I use CPA offers on all of my websites. This method has more than quadrupled my earnings with the Amazon affiliate program! It adds trust in my targeted traffic and reinforces that I am a true authority in the niche. If you are serious about Amazon affiliate marketing, then CPA is the way to go. Your conversion rate will skyrocket and your ability to unlock high commissions will increase tremendously.
Another thing to note is that I don't cloak any of my links to Amazon product pages. I also make it clear on my Disclaimer page on my sites that I earn money from the links on my site as an affiliate (a definite requirement for an Adwords PPC campaign which I sometimes use). Google likes this even though they don't care for affiliate sites (except their own Google Affiliate Networks site which I am also having much of the same success with). My links are no-follow for Google as I do not wish to pass any link-juice to Amazon and keeps my higher page rankings in-house.

Setting up a WP shop is an important step for Amazon niche affiliate marketing. First, it looks legitimate. This is important to page rank for Google (traffic) as well as a requirement for Amazon's TOS (see below).
Site requirements for Amazon are specifically mentioned in their TOS(from the Amazon Affiliate website):
"To begin the enrollment process, you must submit a complete and accurate Program application. You must identify your site in your application. We will evaluate your application and notify you of its acceptance or rejection. We may reject your application if we determine that your site is unsuitable"
A few important keys regarding Amazon links include the following (also from Amazon Affiliate website):
"you must not use a link shortening service in a manner that makes it unclear that you are linking to an Amazon Site"
"Links that Dynamically Generate Products : Certain types of links that we may make available to you dynamically generate particular Products to display based on a contextual analysis of the page on which they appear. If you implement mechanisms that prevent us from crawling or otherwise monitoring your site, you agree that these types of links may not function properly and you will be solely responsible for any such malfunction."
All of these requirements are easily met with a legitimate website that Amazon will crawl. Having quality, original content on your pages will go a long way into making your campaign successful for a long period of time.
While you may be able to operate for a period of time by redirecting links straight from a video, please be careful! The more success you see from this, Amazon sees as well and they will manually review your website and linking strategy to make sure it is not in violation of their TOS. If it is, they may withold payment to you and possibly ban your affiliate account.

What is the best strategy for a Amazon Associates site, should I create a product specific niche site for each individual product, or should i aim to create a niche site that has many products in the same category? Which tactic would be easier to start out with?

Thanks for taking the time to write your post. However I do already have an approved amazon aff account. I was referring on this case specifically to the OP's method.
Obviously he is not too worried about content and SEO as traffic is directed from YT.
So if it was auto-redirected from his YT video to amazon aff link, his landing page could be just a simple one page blog with the amazon aff link as nobody is going to see or search for this, only Amazon?

Actually, having a full product line wp blog in place is vital. Yes, i'm using yt for most of my traffic, but my wp blog serves 2 purposes.
1- it shows azon that i'm real. I have a real online presence.
2- it gives me the opprotunity to build rank on some of my paoduct pages and get organic traffic in addition to the youtube traffic.
Here's how i tweak....
i use statcounter in my blog, so when people click through from google into one of my product pages it tells me 2 things...
1- that i got traffic to a specific product.
2- it tells me what position in google i am listed for that product.
so, when i get a hit on a page, i'll go ahead and tweak that page and toss some links at it in order to get it to move up in serp results... which of course increases odds of more targeted traffic to that page.
i dont bother trying to seo anything at all until i have already received some organic traffic on it because yt provides me with traffic already, so ultimately i am letting buyers tell me what they want, and then i set out to get it higher rankings.

With my experience, Amazon works well with product review sites. You don't need to do great SEO for these sites as your main aim is to rank for the long tail keywords which are the product names (e.g. review of Zojirushi NHS-06 Rice Cooker) - Just build a site around a niche. But surely, it takes time and effort to write unique reviews !

Amazon have a problem with using an auto redirect on your WP site? Something like "go codes" is OK or do your redirects go to a page on the WP site and users have to click on a product description/photo or ???

Amazon marketing seems to deliver good results. Unfortunately, they no longer accept affiliates in our state (Illinois) due to tax laws. I think California has a similar issue as well.

on my setup, the visitor is sent to my page and then auto redirected to the affiliate page - but regular site visitors have to click on a link/image to go to the affiliate page.
I actually sent a support request to amazon asking them to send their security & compliance team to my site and go over it thoroughly and either confirm that i am in compliance or tell me that i am not in compliance, because it takes 3 months to get your first check from them, and i'm not going to sit here and work 3 solid months only to find out on payday that they had some issue with me and have decided to deny payment.
So, i should probably hear from them today on that - and i'll report what they say.
If they say im in compliance, i'll keep doing it - if they say im not, and it seems like to much hassle to get into compliance, i'll just drop this and move on to something else.

States currently not allowing Amazon affiliate programs include:
Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Connecticut
California reopened its affiliate program in September after Amazon reached an agreement with the state over sales tax. Fortunately, this was just a short downtime for California affiliates as the accounts were closed in late June.

That is a very solid move on your part as it also shows Amazon that if something should arise that they may not be in agreement with, you will be given time to correct anything that they feel is not acceptable. As long as you show commitment to abiding by their policies, they will gladly work with you.
The same goes for Google Adwords. They are kind enough to tell you that your ads cannot be used until you make changes to your site and then re-submit them for manual review (although they probably just use bots to crawl). Any issues with compliance will be pointed out and the necessary changes that you need to make before re-submitting.
I find that communication is key with any of these companies. As much as I may dislike Big G, they do put money in my pocket (thank you Adsense!).
Simple rule of thumb to follow:
Play by the rules and you win!
Please let us know how your request to review your site goes with Amazon.
I'm sure they will say you are in compliance because they are going to be looking at your wp site like a regular website visitor does, and aren't being re-directed like your YT traffic.
Don't know if this really helps you in anyway besides trying to give them the impression you are trying to follow their rules and be Mr. Nice Guy which I don't think will matter....Amazon either will pay you or they won't when it comes time.
This is a blackhat forum where a lot of rules are for other people or just an obstacle to overcome.
If you read this thread, you already know he is NOT playing by the "rules" of Amazon. Neither am I with a similar Azon method that uses the same kind of re-direction on certain traffic. The question is about disguising exactly what is going on as the A earnings keep going up and then getting paid. He has a good setup right now.

I would suggest contacting a legal professional if you have any further questions of this nature.
Now, what this tells me is that NO they did not approve. They simply tried to word it in a way that would leave me some hope of getting paid by them so that I would continue to send them traffic/sales and then they can shut me out at the last minute and keep my commissions.
In case you are wondering how/why I have come to this conclusion... It's simple.
Their message told me that they would not look at my site/system to determine if it was compliant, yet, as we all know, when payday comes around, they will indeed do the very thing that they just now told me they couldnt/wouldnt do.

You're right - it is a form letter... and why are form letters like this one in particular created? Saving time is only a part of the reason, the core reason is so that you will continue in good faith, and then not complain later when you get nailed.
It's just part of being a blackhatter... There is tons of money out there, it's never a matter of 'how', its really only ever a matter of 'which one'.
