Amazon affiliate link disclosure

Hi everyone.

Just had a quick question.

I live in the UK and just started putting affiliate links to products I already recommend customers buy for certain household problems on my websites.

My question is do you have to declare that your sending the viewer through an affiliate link to the product?

Or should I put a small disclosure saying that it is an affiliate link?

Does anyone know what the legal aspects of this is?

I love this forum although I don’t think I’ve got the confidence yet to start helping others on this forum but i hope one day I will be able to do so.

Legally, there's no consequences. Just make sure you stick to the Amazon affiliate's policies or they will suspend your account. You may get away with it once in a while but they do routinely review the program for compliance. You can't just get approved and then drastically change your site to violate the original agreement.

Amazon requires you to put a disclosure on your site. Put it in your privacy policy / terms and conditions or in your sidebar/footer section.

I keep an affiliate disclosure in my footer and on my privacy policy/TOS page. Never had a problem. Also, make sure the link is showing it's going to Amazon via URL or having the anchor text indicate it's going to Amazon (aka don't cloak your links)

Put in your TOS not near the link or you'll reduce CTR

Depends on your affiliate program policy that you should add a disclosure of affiliate link or not. For amazon, you have to add disclosure somewhere and state that you will earn commission from the sales with that link.

I can show you a 100.000 pinned pin in pinterest that redirects to amazon running for years. So what you say is not correct.

I was putting some thought into trying an affiliate link based site, and, honestly wasn't aware of disclosure being needed.
I will look out to do this if i ever make the site.
I kind of figured if they hit a link and they end up on Amazon or summit, they sort of know what happened and it wouldn't be "deceptive" or "shady" in any way.
It doesn't cost them anymore if they use your link, does it?
If its same difference anyway, its not a bother to put some boilerplate in the footer and make a TOS page.
