Amazon Affiliate Deducted 30% Tax

I don't even how I am dealing with IRS as I have no proof that my tax has been paid to IRS. Just waiting for 15th march as Amazon will release the forms of tax paid to IRS. Only then I would be able to do something about it.

amazon takes 30% if I'm not a US citizen and I choosed gift cards as payment option?

Amazon will deduct 30% withholding tax unless you complete their tax questionnaire and it shows you should have reduced/zero withholding tax.

It depends on the if your country has a treaty with the US too. Mine does not. So I still have to pay the 30% tax.

Last month I guess they automatically updated my tax information and I even received an email from them. But today when I checked in my payment history page, I see my current Withhold Tax rate is 30% even though I am not from US. I received my payment through payoneer just now and I have also updated my tax information which shows now current withhold rate at 0%. I wrote an email to them and I'd like to know your thoughts about this. Do you guys think I'll receive the remaining amount? or is it already gone to the US government? Pretty tensed as the amount is around $2000.
my work with amazon wasn't so successful :(

you don't have to pay, just make sure your tax info is updated and states that you are not a US resident.

This isn't correct. Amazon has to withhold 30% tax unless your country of residence has a double taxation treaty with the US.

I live in the Caribbean. Some Caribbean countries do not pay to pay the 30% tax like for instance Trinidad. But that is not the case with my country. I know what I am talking about.

This is not true for all countries. As I stated above, I know what I am talking about.

I live in the caribbean as well I get 0% US tax on my Amazon commissions but I have to update my IRS W8-BEN form by the end of this year because I did the tax interview in 2015 which has to be updated every 3 years.

Royalty payments for sales on the U.S. store are subject to 30% U.S. tax withholding. Publishers may be eligible for a reduced rate of U.S. tax withholding if their country of permanent residence has an income tax treaty with the United States. - https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201274690

Show me where what I've said is "not true".

As I also stated some Caribbean counties don't have to pay it. So good for you.

Maybe you should go back and read what I have already said. Then maybe you will see the answer.

Happened with me today. Here is the solution.

1. Go here - https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/home/account
2. Click on View/Provide Tax Information
3. Click on Start Interview and fill the TIN info.
If you are from India like me, fill the PAN Card number, and click "All services are outside US"
4. You have to fill the full form and submit.
Once completed, your withholding rate will go to 0% i.e. no Tax.

Also, you can claim you Taxed money in Jan 2021
