    ---- THREAD CLOSED 10/14/2015 ----
I'm not sure why we don't have one of these already? All the other amateur Internet Marketing forums out there have.

The idea is simple - We get guests to come here as well as our own members already on the forum that are specialized in certain topics. Once they agree to come over for an AMA we open a thread here for a week. Members submit some questions.. then the best questions are put to the guest the following week.

We leave the thread open after the AMA with all the questions and answers.. hopefully the guest is then willing to participate in a little further back and forth with members. If not it's left open for us all to discuss the answers they gave in the AMA.

I think this would be a great idea which would bring in heaps of new traffic. There are enough members here on BHW specialized in all sorts of areas which could fill the rota for the first few months.. for example Thomas (meathead1234) on site flipping. I personally know plenty of big names in the SEO industry that would love the free publicity to appear on a BHW AMA.. and I'm sure others could put plenty of names in the hat too.

    What do you guys think?

Its a good idea but it would have to have strict rules to prevent the host upselling their own stuff.

Big time! I should have covered some of that in the OP.. that would be a given. A bit of free publicity for them is no problem.. but no fucking about trying to promote their products.

Yeah good idea as long as the bullshitters are kept out and that the focus is on quality
It will also be amusing to see who thinks they deserve an AMA thread lol
Didn't Veyron volunteer to speak at unGagged?

I'd be interested in a section like this if of course it consists of AMAs of members/personalities selected by the staff to avoid uninteresting "NoobSEO48984" type members from opening a thread that just dilutes the quality of the section. It is always VERY interesting to learn about the habits, routines, and best practices of successful people as well as what they do what they know (as an expert) to be common mistakes in their industry.

A template that would be interesting for all AMA guests to answer in my opinion would be something along the lines of this (this is loosely based off what Tim Ferriss asks his guests in his podcast and what he recommends asking mentors in his book the 4-hour workweek)

    1. What are the 3 most important factors that lead to the most success in your industry? (for site flipping: What are the 3 most important factors you look at when valuating a site/estimating the potential of a site?)
    2. What are the common mistakes you see people (both experts or noobies) in your industry make? (for site flipping: What are the common mistakes that lead to a loss of capital when investing in a site)
    3. What do you attribute your success to? (this applies more to the person than industry for example: hard work, good education, eating gluten free for a month, lifting 5 tons of rice everyday, whatever the person thinks helped them succeed)
    4. What does your typical day look like? (once again this is individual based rather than industry based)
    5. What advice would you give to someone who wants to start in your industry today? (for site flipping: What advice would you give to someone who wants to start flipping sites today)
    6. Who are some of the people who you consider to be experts in your field? (for site flipping: Who are some of the people who you consider to be experts in site flipping?)

It's no secret that BHW has an issue with fake AMA's where people are just trying to hustle a service and not sell in the marketplace. Does that mean we say AMA's aren't allowed? Hell no imo. Listen, when done correctly AMA's can be an excellent way to revitalize in-depth conversation. Let me outline what an AMA section can do for BHW.

    1) An official section with strict rules will eliminate clowns from starting AMA's for the wrong reason.

    2) It would give the BHW newsletter fresh news like ( <BHW Member> Is having an AMA on <Subject> Join in and let's get the discussion going!

So you clean up the forum from bogus AMAs, increase activity, and breathe life into newsletters. Sounds like a winner to me Tommy. I already have a mind for a couple of members that can handle AMA's or small sessions of discussions here.

No doubt it would put a fresh coat of paint on the dialogue around here......

Excellent man.. this is exactly the type of feedback and input I was looking to hear.

More excellent input. I like point 2 - The newsletter could announce the new speaker 2 weeks before they come.. directing members to the first thread where we are compiling questions! More traffic and may even pull back old members if they see a name they like on the next AMA, plus some actual decent content for that newsletter!

In my opinion it's not even about rules. I think voting should be done (by the staff or members, whatever is viewed to be best) to determine who should be INVITED to do an AMA. I don't think anyone should be able to just open a thread to do an AMA. The way I see it the best way to go about things would be to invite elite members/industry people and leverage the fact that BHW has a large audience to encourage them to have an AMA on here.

I think what he meant by rules is that we've had a few random clowns open "AMA" threads in the past.. with an official section we could cut these out completely with a rule - only AMA threads are the official ones in the official section.

Those guests are invited like you mention. In the beginning we could have experts from BHW.. We create a thread first in the new section for questions for the guest. Leave it open for maybe 10 days. The moderator of the section then takes the best questions and puts them together for the guest. The guest answers them then the moderator of the section posts the final Q & A when complete in a new thread and removes the first one. New thread is then left open for some time (2-3 weeks) for members to discuss further.

Lmao I have Charles on Twitter he's actually quite fun I bet he would be down for an AMA

I also had a thought.. a lot of these ungagged speakers (especially this next vegas one) are smart guys with great stories to share no doubt. It would be cool to get them in for AMAs too as each ungagged conference loomed!

It may work if the people are already known and respected within the community (Thomas, Greg, etc). But bringing in an outsider could be... challenging. I feel that respect here is earned over time and a lot of members have their BS meters set to auto pwn. If an outsider was brought in the thread would at least have to be moderated heavily to keep the discussion on track.

One question: a big part of AMAs in my opinion is the ability to ask an immediate followup question. If we have all the questions asked in advance and curated, there's no opportunity to do that. Any thoughts on how we might get around that? What if this was done more as an IRC thing for Jr VIPs and up to filter out some of the noise?

Thomas and a few others would be great people to interview, folks highly skilled in their own areas of IM.. Greg? I'm not sure what he's actually done for the industry. I'd be more interested in getting people with expertise in actual areas of IM and avoid turning it in to a forum popularity contest.

But anyway.. My thoughts on outsiders I don't think it would be challenging at all, if smaller forums can do it I'm sure we can.. the idea would be to bring in "legit" people with solid reputations in their own respective areas of IM. I don't mean bullshit artists either as I agree they would be pulled apart here in an instance.

On other IM forums it's actually done exactly how I've described in the OP.. the best questions are selected before hand. The guest is welcome then to get in the mix afterwards on the public thread. IRC for this would be a cluster fuck.. it would need to be done on a thread imo

I don't want to steer off topic here so I'll just make a short comment about that and let it be. Greg could bring good information and advice on general business knowledge. Something that could be useful considering many people here are not only starting an online business but rather their first business.

Could he? Not sure what qualifies him to do that apart from what he claims here on bhw.. but I'll not get in to that. As I said I think these AMAs would be better suited to people with actual REAL proven track records and reputations in the industry like your first example of Thomas.

But hey I'm sure if enough folks want an AMA from Greg he would have no problems doing one! :)

Sounds like a solid idea Tommy. I know you know a lot of the heavy hitters in the SEO scene that would likely be greateful of the invitation to an AMA on Black Hat World also. :)
