Am I in a dead Niche?

Hey guys, I've only just recently started affiliate marketing and I've ensured to read as many guides as possible, very thankful for all the free information on here!

Main reason I'm posting is because I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere, at least not specifically. To cut to the chase, I picked up a Clickbank product for Sciatica and I was looking into some good keywords. Now at this point I've already purchased the domain which has the targeted keyword in it's name and wrote several articles for my site.

As I am learning as I go I had not learned at how important keyword research was before starting a project, so turns out my keyword is a dud, but that's okay. I changed it up and found one that had about 500 monthly searches and I just changed it in my articles.

Anyway point is I then learned about keyword competition, and after checking several sites I basically found out that almost EVERY keyword related to Sciatica has a difficulty level of 38-60. After reading some BHW guides it was mentioned I should go for keywords of 20-30, thing is even the keywords with really low monthly searches have high competition.

It's worth noting that almost none of the websites that come up for the keyword are targeted specifically to that keyword, but it's always usually from the same health site anyway which has very high DA and PA as well as other metrics.

I guess I'm just wondering if I picked the wrong product to promote, I don't want to 'give up' as I know that is something many people might do, and I haven't done much work for it, but I don't want to go into something that would be practically impossible.

Any advice would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance!

as you are new, you are still looking at this from an seo standpoint, there are a lot of ways to drive traffic, social media is one of the easiest if you want to start without much investment, you can also buy paid traffic, it may seem like it's defeating the purpose of making money for someone who's just starting, but if you could skip ahead to that step, you should know that every internet marketer wind up there eventually as it is the best way to scale, ofcourse it's not that easy and needs a little experience, but if you have money to invest, look up some tutorial for paid traffic and start small.

Thanks for the advice! I will look into the paid traffic, it's probably not something I will straight away but will certainly keep in mind

You have a few choice, I would say brainstorm first
- Don't use the wording Sciatica, think about related keywords, what wording will be related to this? Maybe symptoms or leg pain? And try to use those as your seed keyword
- Understand about traffic funnel -> People search why they have leg pain? -> tell them about it -> recommend a product which you have tested or reviewed

Other than that, you can promote using social traffic, try join facebook group regarding Sciatica, and talk about it. Or try use something like buzzbundle (use the free 1, it can't save project, but who cares), then just try answer/comment and give useful information and try ask people to come to your website to see more information.

I would say forums, blogs and q&a website such as quora + yahoo answer would be useful in this case

The health niche is very hard, you cant compete with sites like WebMd. I'm sorry but converting clickbank products is way harder and barely worth it. Look into Amazon or other niches.

Quick query, since amazon affiliate rate is quite low, only up to 10%, is it recommended to run adsense at the same time?

Yes you can use both amazon and adsense on same site, I'm doing it with good result.

And I agree with others that you should stay away from clickbank since most sold there are either scam or just dosen't work.

Ah Interesting, well I appreciate the advice. In your opinion is it better to have a bunch of sites for amazon and adsense or does 1 site do? I'll be honest I'd be more excited to make a website that doesn't look 'scammy' like the clickbank type ones, especially since I could do a site with a niche that I'm interested in!

I've decided to go with Amazon, I've found some really great guides and I like the idea of writing content that is actually helpful. Much thanks to everyone in this thread for the advice.

If you're going with amazon and have WordPress take a look at easyazon, you can easily add related products to your posts, also don't overlook ebay, you can use easybay plugin to automatically add live ebay auctions to your posts and pages. Good luck

I like building big sites with 100's of pages instead of many thin sites. Much easier to rank when your site get some authority.

Okay cool, I will go do some keyword research (while learning how to do keyword research, haha) and find a good niche and keyword.

Personally I'm not looking to make bank, if I earned just $20 a day from this I'd be stoked, so that's my current goal haha.

Apsconsus, if you're starting an amazon affiliate site I'd recommend going to flippa.com and using their search look at "sold auctions" from there look for amazon affiliate websites that sold for over 20,000 USD. Open one and copy the entire format. You could steal their keywords too but do your own research it may be a niche that is very hard to get into.

I would not recommend running Adsense alongside amazon associates because you'd be giving away your traffic for pennies. It would only make sense if you had a large site 300 + pages and you had both modes of monetization.

I would aim for a 30 - 50 page amazon associates site and target an easy keyword to begin with. You'll have to invest money in links, look for good PBNs on here (hint: the cheap ones are shit) Build 20 Web 2.0's and tier them. Get some good blog comments and a Press Release. Finally buy some PBN links and setup your own mini 4 - 5 site PBN for HQ links. That's all you need to rank a 1000 / month keyword that will make you $1000 - 2000 USD per month passive income. Remember to look for low competition keywords.

For amazon ideal keywords are:

best XXXX
XXXX reviews
XXXX for sale

Look for products above $100 with lots of reviews to get good comissions and stay away from Electronics

Lastly, read the Amazon Associates rules thoroughly, they are very picky about their affiliates and will ban your account for violating their TOS even if you're bringing them 100K/month in sales. Some common examples for violating their TOS are listing the price of the product, cloaking links etc..

You're welcome. Also don't forget to get some social shares to your site and also to your tier 1 links. Finally, build your FB, IG, Pinterest, Twitter etc.. accounts to get more credibility.
