Over the last few days I have seen a lot of newbies bumping their post count by spending less than 30 secs on a thread then replying with a "thanks" or "good info" type of comment.
It is clear they are trying to get to the magic 15 posts so that they can PM people but it has started to p*ss me off.
I have started to report and neg rep them.
So tell me, Am I an *rsehole ?

No the site has to be monitored because the Mods and Admins are working at capacity as BHW is now so busy with nearly 500,000 members...

I too report when I see, but the neg rep is optional, personally I have never neg repped anyone...

But hey that does not mean that folks should not neg rep - used in line with BHW rules is exactly what rep was designed for...

To answer your question you are helping out which in itself deserves thanks not criticism!

Just my 2 cents :)

No, people should add input or not bother. I too am sick of all the "Cool" "Nice" "Thanks" comments. I think BHW should limit newbies to how short a sentence they can post.

This is the best one I have ever seen, looks like it took him up to his 15 http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/white-hat-seo/537598-best-way-recycle-my-articles.html#post5262038

I don't like clutter like that as well but I wouldn't neg rep them. I would try pointing out to them how the forum generally frowns upon that and tell them about the add rep and thanks button instead. There are so many of them but if you inform a few, at least you save the forum from a little bit of clutter one person at a time.

I think that its only natural for reporting this sort of action however I don't think its right to neg rep or rather I don't think its needed unless neg rep play any role on disabling that users power of sending PM's after he reach a certain threshold of negativity and even so I don't think that mods would be able to catch him straight away.

Don't get me wrong the mods are doing an awesome job but depending on day and time they might not be available and it might take longer for an action to be taken resulting on the user being able to abuse his new abilities.

No you are not but I would rather spend that time earning money. Why waste your time hating someone. Just let it go.

I think it's good that he is taking the time to report them. Because those are the kind of people who are just dying to get to their post count to start scamming in pm's.

not to mention the 10 years ago threads bump

No, You are not asshole :P, Well I have seen a lot of guy doing the same thing, They are increasing their post by Replying "Thank you or Nice post or I have bookmarked and Similars", I'd like mods to take action or otherwise BHW will be turned into DP/WF soon..

Just my thought

I don't think you are an asshole, because I do the same !
Mods cannot always see those spammers, so I think reporting them is a good way to help the mods and make the community better.

Personally I find that starting to read a thread that popped on the new posts and after a while notice that it is 5 years old is a bit (REALLY) annoying.

If you think you're a*sehole, then you're one. You're doing a good job by reporting them. But, I will rather avoid the hatred part. Hatred is not a good thing to do because it pollutes us and especially hating someone whom you don't know or hasn't done any serious crime. I use the term, "Hate" because Neg-Repping is like a punishment and we punish someone because we hate a particular about them. Ok. I am talking BS, but let me put it in a simple manner, you should carry on Reporting people if they are making stupid comments. This forum needs more people who are concerned about it and its standard.

Yeah, the "bump" posts have really irked me of late. Hopefully BHW can combat that somehow because it's just a total, useless post in itself.

This is totally a personal opinion. So please no offence and dont hate me for this ;)

as there are more than 500000 members on BHW and you are one of the members who hate (because you neg rep them) newbies for their annoying posts like "good" , "nice" and all. I think instead of wasting your time in neg rep them you can send them a short message and guide them through.. that newbie would be really thankful to you for the rest of life (if he is a member for long term).

we mods generally don't patrol the forum looking for rule violations, as that would be massively time consuming, and there're only like 20 of us to manage a forum of 480,000.

the report system is really what keeps the forum together and running smoothly. it's up to the members to point out rule violations to keep the forum clean. mods just check the facts and issue the bans.

so keep doing what you're doing. it really does benefit us all. :)
