Alternative Revenue Model(s)

So, I'm in the process of building a membership site, but I don't want to charge people a monthly subscription fee and I'm not too keen on using adsense (because they can ban me at any point and it takes 60 days to get paid).

Affiliate model isn't too good either as there aren't that many products out there I can promote to them.

What alternative revenue models could I use to make the business profitable?

Let's see what sort of creative solutions BHW can come up with!

Opps, by adwords I meant Google Adsense.

Build the site, grow the membership then flip it and let the buyer decide how to monetize.

If it's a membership site, then you should charge monthly/annual membership.
The question is if you are going to offer a truly premium content (premium in any way). If you do, you can definitely make the members pay for it, even each month.

Yeah, except I want a long term cash cow

Here are some revenue models I thought off in the last 30 min.

1) We could implement a "freemium" feature were basic users have access to some features, but other features would only be available to paying VIP members.

2) A nagware feature - where every few days we nag the basic users to upgrade in order to unlock all the features and also remove the "nagware".

3) A sponsored ranking feature - where those VIP that wish to make their thread/post a sticky at the top for 24 hours they can do so for a 1 off fee (pay as you go).

4) A native ad model - where people that want to advertise their products / services can promote directly through us after they pay a fee... and pay based on impressions or clicks. The sponsored ads would be native, blend in with the other natural posts so they get more clicks & attention from the users.

Agree, if you build a community with a strong social presence, brokers will fight for you like Jean Claude Van Damme in BloodSport.

Damn, I am getting old with these references.
