Have you heard about certain big websites dropping in ranking? There are several of them. The reason is simple. They did not follow the current practices in the SEO and Technical SEO as outlined in the webmaster guidelines.

SEO practices are changing in everything. There are always new rules in the webmaster guidelines. One good example is, two years ago, inbound links were the reason why websites ranked highly in search engines. This later turned out to make many websites fall off from the rank they were in initially because inbound links were banned. For you to rank highly you need to ensure that you follow the most current trends in Technical Search Engine Optimization.

What is Technical SEO?

There are basically two types of Search Engines Optimization. There is the type of SEO that a reader can see on a web post. This includes adding keywords to your web post. Use of images and video content. This kind of SEO is referred to as Onsite SEO practices.

However only using this type of SEO will not help you rank. You need Technical SEO. This type of SEO requires you to harness the robotic search engines to help your website rank higher on the search engines. Offsite SEO practices like Technical SEO are mainly done by the developer of the website.

To differentiate this two, we are going to take an example of a car. The outside of a car is referred to as the onsite SEO. The vehicle engine can be referred to as the Technical SEO.

How Should Technical SEO Be Added To Your Blog or Website?

Since the Technical SEO refers to the internal components of the website. They should be added by the website developers.

A very good example of a Technical SEO practice is using the latest programming practices. One major factor that Google looks when ranking your website is the time your website takes to load.

The program for adding a color background in a website using HTML was initially very long. However, HTML developers have shortened the code to be one line.

A website that uses the former long code takes time to load compared to a website that uses the latest code. A good example of a website that dearly lost its ranking is the Walmart according to KISSMETRICS. The load time on their website increased from one to 5 seconds to load. In the latter period, they highly lost their ranking in a huge way. Fortunately, they later increased the speed and hence were able to rank highly again.

That good example shows how Technical SEO is of absolute importance to your website. Your developer should understand the latest Technical SEO practices and hence put them in place when making your website.

It is always advisable for you to make sure that you install the Technical SEO on your website well before. Incorporating Technical SEO at a later date will cost you a lot of your money and time. More to that you will have to stop your business in order for you to install your Technical SEO.

You should be very careful when you are incorporating your Technical SEO. Many people confuse Black Hat SEO practices with Technical SEO. This is because they are all offsite SEO practices. However black hat SEO has a bleak future.

This is because all search engines are trying to remove websites that have ranked due to black hat SEO practices. Some of the black hat SEO practices include using excessive inbound links. Other black hat SEO practices include keyword stuffing on a white paper to harness the algorithms of the search engines. Basically, Technical SEO practices have a big future since they do not involve shortcuts to get to the top.

Qualities Of A Website That Has The Best Technical SEO.

These are some of the things that you should look at to know if your website has the best Technical SEO.

A Good Domain Name.

What do I mean by a good domain name? A good domain name is a domain that reflects the contents of your website.

It is the first thing that search engines will look at to rank your website.

One good example is if your website is talking about relationships. Your domain name should be related to what you are talking about. so it can be winningagirl(dot)com or maybe Goodrelationships(dot)com.

There is much about selecting the domain name because a domain like cars(dot)com is very expensive so you can decide to use a domain like autos(dot)com. Since everyone will type cars on search engines and not autos. A good domain name is a good practice in Technical SEO.

Website Speed.

This is a very important aspect of the Technical SEO. According to the very webmaster rules Google requires that your website speed be faster even on the phone.

In fact, Google stated last year that those websites that do not have a mobile phone interface will lose in ranking. This is because the latest research shows that 70% of people who surf the websites do so through their phones.

If your website is a WordPress one you should consider using plug-ins like WPmobile touch that will make your website mobile responsive. A site like huffing post recorded an increase of 37% of traffic after allowing a mobile design.

Pages that contain images and videos take a longer time to load. You should take time and try using robotics.txt.

This powerful tool will help to organize your website so that it looks very responsive even with numerous images and videos.

It basically tells the search engines on which pages to load first and what pages to load second. Using this powerful tool for your Technical SEO will also help you to block pages that you do not want people to see.

Navigation And Website Structure.

If you did not consider navigation its time you considered it. It is a powerful Technical SEO practice that will help you rank in a huge way.

Navigation and site structure is seriously taken into consideration when ranking websites on search engines. The webmaster rules guide developers that they should arrange their website from the home page. By this I mean one should not have a category that is not related or cannot be traced back from the homepage.

Failing to structure your website will also make you have very many broken links. This is where one sees a 404 error on your page.

More to that good site navigation will make people love your site and hence bring more traffic to your site. Additional traffic will automatically make your site rank higher.

There are the universally accepted Technical SEO practices in navigation and structure of a website. This is why all e-commerce platforms in the world are almost similar in navigation.

You got some good points right there, man. However, there are still people who experience drops are still clueless about what could have caused it, despite of the ones you've mentioned above. I'll definitely share this to them, though.

I believe that you wanted to share valuable information about Technical SEO, but I suggest that you get your facts right. ;)

There's no such thing as "robotics.txt" - I'll just assume that it was just a typo error, but still, the way you define what is it use for is somewhat incorrect. You don't use "ROBOTS.TXT" for images and instruct search engine crawlers how to organize your site and which element to load first. That's completely incorrect my friend.

For images and videos - you can create video and image sitemap that you can include in your "ROBOTS.TXT" for proper indexation and what not.
For pages/post/scripts - you can use "ROBOTS.TXT" to create a rule to whether disallow/allow certain pages. Careful with this one.

Overall, I think your points are not consistent and needs more cleaning in terms of subject matter. At the latter part, you quoted about e-commerce all of a sudden where in fact, it's somewhat a bit different from an ordinary website.

There's nothing wrong in sharing, but atleast try to get your facts right before spreading the word for people to follow. :)

Cheers!

I am not sure about WPmobile touch anymore. Technically You should develop your theme responsively and compatible with AMP ( Accelerated mobile pages). Google pushing hard AMP on both content sites and e-commerce.
