Just to give you guys an example. my biggest competitor ranks number 1 with a page that has over 1500 links from a single domain AND all those 1500 articles are the SAME as well...

Sites like this seem to be ranking well for me at the moment, the extra effort in making your sites 'cool' and 'unique' is well worth it.
