Blekko sucks balls, Duck Duck Go is better

I think,Page layout algorithm improvement, launches an algorithmic change that looks at the layout of a webpage.

What I dont understand is that I get a weekly email from adsense saying put more ads on your sites! Google doesn't know what left hand is saying to err right... fool me once shame on you but you caint fool me again..

For the person saying I was whining about nothing - For me being 3rd instead of 1st is like 70% less income. My traffic is now officially 1/3rd of what it used to be and that's just for day one.

For those of you looking to change their layouts you might wanna take a look at hxxp://browsersize.googlelabs.com/

there was already a thread

Oooh the irony!!

its indeed the truth. see one commenter wrote this there:-

Matt Cutts, you are perhaps the most awful hypocrite on the www.

You wrote this: "So sites that don?t have much content ?above-the-fold? can be affected by this change. If you click on a website and the part of the website you see first either doesn?t have a lot of visible content above-the-fold or dedicates a large fraction of the site?s initial screen real estate to ads, that?s not a very good user experience."

You are 100% correct!

Now perhaps you could explain why it's acceptable for Google to go ahead with this "not a very good user experience" approach to above-the-fold ads in their own search result pages, but when small businesses do the same they suffer loss of revenues because of your hypocritcal policies? You are starving small websites of the opportuniy to earn revenue while creaming it off yourself.

Matt, I don't think Google should be judging any site by a set of critea that they are not prepared to judge their own site by.

Slippery slope.

Just done a search for "credit cards" on my notebook, I see one search result just on the fold, everything else is ads, when I write everything, I mean just that - everything else above the fold is ads. Something you just stated is a "bad user experience" and worth a penalty?

another report on the same story:

So this affects only sites with adsense on them? Im confused.

Even my sites got hit :D :( .... now I have installed Who Sees Ads plugin and will only be showing ads to search visitors, lets see how it goes.

not a plugin ive used myself as i dont run adsense sites, but for those who do, it'll be be interesting to see whether or not this improves your rankings again....

It's hard to tell what they consider as an advert, a very basic ad could be an image with an external link, or maybe they are just checking if to see if you have some good content above the fold somehow. Some of these wordpress themes have huge header images (2012 theme for example), I wonder if that affects things.

All my adsense sites got hit this morning. They went from ranking on page 1 to page 2 and beyond. I have the post title followed by 1 336x280 ad block and then unique content. All these sites had been climbing up the SERPs the past few months after getting hit back in October since I was implementing new backlinks. But now all of sudden all of them got hit. By the way they all use the same theme. So I'm not sure if I take the adsense off and maybe implement into the content like left or right justified to see if that will bring back the rankings?

But I noticed my offline client's site got hit as well today and he does no advertising on his site and all of this content is above the fold. So I don't know what could be at play here besides the page layout.

Also it looks like just about all the sites that were just made for Adsense took the dive as well even if they had good content and layout. Maybe have to wait it out to see what to change to get the sites back up.

What do you mean with Above the Fold?!

Is it above the first line of text?!

Thank god I don't have any ads above the fold. What a cocksucker he can't abide by his own ranking guidelines.

I've got 4 sites exact same layout. 2 of them were hit same as the above poster, most pages way down. I have a block of adsense above the fold aligned left, with unique, quality content to the right but was still penalized. All in all, lots of content above the fold and its not crap. Certainly not an excessive display of ads in any way.

The ads above the fold in Google search is interesting and so hypocritical. Seems like they want all the money, a few crumbs for the rest. Sometimes working with Google is worse than working for a job with a manager breathing down your neck. Fuckers...

wtf is a leadboard for if its NOT above the fold what a bunch of cock nosed bum sniffers, I bet they have this huge 'filter' list with all the coin show s(h)ites in it, so it wont affect them

If you click on a website and the part of the website you see first either doesn't have a lot of visible content above-the-fold or dedicates a large fraction of the site's initial screen real estate to ads, that's not a very good user experience. Such sites may not rank as highly going forward.

Content is King ;)
