All about backlinks

A very handful post about backlinks.
You said lots of links type but nothing about profile links.
What about profile links?
And the URLs you gave for .edu guest post are not working.

what about hotels sites? All off them use same hotels, same content. Is not the backlinks that ranks them? Because for sure is not the content:)
 
I can't wait to get ranked already! Argh it's so time consuming!
 
Thanks for the post it is badly needed. You have given me an idea what are the good things and effective ways when doing a backlink. Also for the website that would be very relevant to use to get a backlink.

Another thing to add could be reddit. Not sure if it would be a backlink but it can also help you get exposure :P
 
very informative. Lots of cool tricks. :) But just one question, I checked links in comments on flickr and found out that it has nofollow tags, is this still recommended?

In order to prevent from getting negative panda points from google, is a unique content linkwheel enough for rank #1 low competition long tail keywords?

The linkwheel I am going to use is modified in that there are two tiers; my site is linked to four other tier-one sites. Each tier-one site is linked to four tier-two sites which are also connected to each other, forming a four circle subwheel. One tier-two is connected to my site directly.

a: My site -> four tier-one web 2.0's
1: tier-one web 2.0 -> four tier-two web 2.0's
1a: one tier-two web 2.0 -> my site

Excellent post... but, a lot (if not all) of the links referred in the post are pretty much dead. Would be great if somebody could go through and drop in some new links that work in place?

Otherwise thanks a lot for the info. I'm sure other n00bs like myself really appreciate it!

does it still count as a link if you post a comment but you only link to your site through your name and don't put any anchor text links in the comment area? Is it still worth it or do the search engines only care about anchor text links in the comment area?

I didn't know this way to find blog's for my niche.
 
Mostly people wont share edu/gov backlinks list. I got some, if you need, i can share to you.

Yeah, it's still a link with whatever you used in the name field as the anchor text. How worthwhile are they? Well that's the real question isn't it. Google is continually updating their algorithms in an effort to discount the effect of spam type links.

Overall those would be pretty weak backlinks. Different people have various results though. To some extent it probably depends on what keywords you're targeting and how competitive they are. So you need to use your own judgement as to whether they'll be worth the effort for you or not.
