Eric here... Susan asks an intesting question. I suspect that most probable use is to artificially inflate the ranking in preperation for a sale of the domain. A higher ranking should hopefully entice a potential suitor to pay a premium for the domain, under the assumption that the high ranking correlates to increased traffic.
Another equally probable use would be for bragging rights; having a portfolio of sites that are all inflated might convince a potential customer of your ability to perform effective and quality SEO.
Both are clearly deceptive in nature, but then this is black hat, right?
As for us, we have stopped using the script as it has served it's purpose. The inflated ranking in Alexa has appeared to drop accordingly.
I think it's worth pointing out now that since some time has passed since the script was initially published, some of the variables may now be stale, which ***may*** render the script ineffective. In order to verify this, one would need to use a packet sniffer to capture the traffic generated by the alexa toolbar and modify the script accordingly.
I have no desire to install that life-sucking toolbar at the present time, so I leave that chalange to you.

A few bugz here;
I saw that alexa toobar sends that $keyid is not only [A-Z] [a-z] [0-9]. There is also slashes and plus sign.
And you also made a mistake while constructing $cdt.
This is stupid but data should be like this -> cdt=alx_vw=20. there is extra equal sign.

how that i could use it in my vbulletin forum?
im try to input ur script in my header page template.
and i saw in my forum there's a box that can be filled with numbers,and if the numbers was already in the box it can be running.

Hey how to use this script??? What should I do to get started... I don't know php... And what is this header.php file? I use HTML... I can convert my sites to PHP though.... Will somebody help me plzz?? What will happen to Noobs if you guys take advantage and nobody teaches...??
My alexa rank before installing script: 1,675,231
After: 1,709,531
looks like this script isnt working.
lower rank is much better.
and alexa rank between 1 and 2 millions will mostly be pushed by yourself if you have the alexa bar installed.
if youre really into alexa checking you site often da day you will automatically get a lower alexa.
if you dont care anymore for alexa you can see alexa rank is growning again.
