Has AI compliance ever caused a real problem for anyone? Such as delaying a launch, enterprise deal, investment, or audit? If so, what happened?

In my experience, not directly. Most of the delays I've seen were caused by legal or security reviews, with AI compliance being just one part of the overall approval process.

I'm exploring whether better AI risk documentation and evidence could help speed up those broader legal and security reviews. Was there any part of the approval process that was especially manual, repetitive, or difficult to prove?

it definitely slows down investment rounds bro... vc legal teams dig deep into where you got your training data during due diligence.

thanks for input, Im actually building a platform that helps companies understand and manage AI compliance by turning their AI features into structured risk assessment , required evidence and auidt-ready docs. I was looking for a validation, since I wasn't sure if this is painful enough problem worth solving

yeah man i have seen startups get stuck in legal limbo for months because they scraped copyrighted stuff for training. and to the op that is definitely a painful problem worth solving bro. enterprise buyers love automated compliance docs so they can pass audits faster.

awesome, hope I can catch one client someday, building stuff is the easiest part these days..

On my end, the delay wasn't entirely due to AI either. there were a few instances of indirect product image delays, but nothing major.

the real bottleneck is always enterprise sales. if a startup is trying to close a big corporate client, those security questionnaires stall deals for months. they ask crazy detailed questions about data leakage and model training that sales guys have no clue how to answer. if your tool can auto-generate a compliance package they can just hand over to clear procurement, you definitely have a market. selling it is going to be the hard part though... trust is everything with this stuff.
thanks for input! Based on your experience, who is responsible for answering those questions? Also curious whether the painful part is mostly writing the answers, or actually finding or proving the evidence behind them? I’m trying to understand where the biggest bottleneck really is before I push the product further

@bubi31k usually it falls on the CTO or some lead dev who gets dragged away from actual coding to fill these out. Sales reps just throw it over the fence because they don't know the technical details. The real bottleneck is proving the evidence, not just writing the text. Most companies just copy-paste templated answers they find online, but when corporate security audits ask for actual proof like data flow maps or fine-tuning logs, everything stalls. If your tool can actually pull that evidence automatically instead of just giving them a template to fill out, you have a solid product. Otherwise it is just another generic doc generator.

the real nightmare is when the enterprise buyer forces you into their own vendor portal like onetrust or whistic. you cant just hand them a clean pdf you generated... you end up copy pasting everything into their proprietary forms anyway. if your tool can map evidence directly to standard frameworks like soc2 or iso 42001 it helps the tech team feel better, but the manual back-and-forth with the buyers security team is where deals go to die.

It can only affect you if your revenue/earnings are above certain thresholds, depending on the model's license they were released with
