Affiliate Conversion Ratio

Hey people of BHW,
i am new to this concept of affiliate marketing, i am not asking "how to make money" i just want some advice on whats a good general conversion rate for affiliate programs. e.g. 5 purchases per 100 clicks, or 5/1000, i have not a clue (consider decent targeted traffic). can it be a relatively white hat estimate please as i am going with white hat first, then maybe move to black hat.

I'm averaging about 1/82 for cam sites. I don't really know if that's bad or good. It's hard to use generalizations, since a lot of it depends on the quality of your traffic and the offer you are promoting.

If i had to give you a concrete typical whitehat cpa figure i'd say 3-5% but it's going depend on a number of different factors.

A lot of email/zip submits, based on the length of action, may be larger in conversion rate vs. a sale/paid trial conversion which will require the user purchase. Then again this is where your targeting comes in, and if that is focused(facilitating the sale of shopper seeking product/service) then you will get the conversion.

I think there's a big difference in conversions between PPC traffic and natural search traffic. If I'm paying for PPC, I can control exactly what people type in to get to my site, but with natural listings, I'm bound to get some weird unrelated traffic, which pulls down my percentages.
