Adsense seems like an unviable monetization method for the average SEO'er

Al of that depends on your niche... I generate about 8K a month from adsense these days and most of my 40 sites are Business, Finance and Employment.
Wow..8k a month is serious stuff!!
RESPECT!

Can you please PM me your project! Just wanna learn from the expert.

What is your daily traffic and how long did it take to rank for them? If it didn't take too long and wasn't that hard I could see it being a reasonable way to earn a living by scaling up.

From what I've read though I've pretty much decided on the CB route for now though keeping my mind/eyes open as my opinion may change in a flash at this early stage :D.

Not much daily traffic, around 30-50 UV per day. The CTR is really good. CPC is poor to average.

Keyword research took 1 day, each site took 2 days to make, then I blasted the shit out of them with SB for 3 months. If you add in VPS, hosting and domain costs on top of that, it's hardly worth it. I would have to make and SEO fucking 50 of these sites just to get to $900 per month, all with the risk of being deindexed because of same adsense account. Domain costs would be 50 x 7 = $350 per year.

There HAS to be a more efficient way of monetization.

I would say anyone who says adsense is not good have picked a wrong niche. Choose the right niche, get into the no 1 position and draw in the traffic. Then you would know what it is all about. It is all about choosing a niche where there is not much competition and at the same time, also has advertisers.

The right keywords and the right niche are key. You need low competition and high-paying CPC. Quite easy once you get the hang of it.

Good point about a thin MFA site; my MFA sites are no smaller than 150 pages of unique content and my largest one is close to 1900 pages.

Build bigger sites, get more KWs ranked, get more traffic, make more money.

The more money part is the one I really like.

OMG I think if started right now I would finish a 1.9k page site by the end of 2012  Seriously ... that's pretty impressive :thumb:

I outsource everything with the exception of the KW research... I'm not anywhere near smart enough to be able to come up with that volume of content inside of 6 months.

Actually it sounds to me like you're plenty smart. Outsourcing content creation is by far the smartest move, since it takes tons of time to create content on your own and you can have it done for you for $5 per 500 word articles. I wouldn't agonize an hour over an article just to save a lousy five bucks.

Great thread so far, I think this thread has attracted some successful adsense marketers and they have shared some very sound advice.

I think the main point throughout this thread has been to work hard on your adsense sites to make them not only profitable, but stand the test of time in the SERPS.

Another think I'd like to add to this thread is: If you have not already done this, start it as soon as you can...

You must have a hobby or interest you're into, read about online e.t.c... if so... start a blog about it, make it a site that's really yours with those finishing touches of a dedicated webmaster, keep it updated at least twice a week, get involved with the community on twitter, facebook, or youtube e.t.c..

You eventually will see the backlinks, visits & followers roll in, once the site is awesome, look at where you can make money from it, and unleash your favorite black hat tactics a few link layers deep.

You will roll in the cash, especially if your hobby is a sport such as golf or fitness ;)

I was just about to edit my post and ask exactly that :D

I've tried that in the past but wasn't prefectly happy with it. Always had to spend some time editing/rewriting. Are you using a specific service or fiverr gigs? Or a mix evenually?

@DamageX - you're not "the TGP guy" are you?

have you ever had a site banned from g?

how do you link to all your pages from the home page for such a massive site? that is one thing i am having issues with is how to make it look neat and clean with the site navigation.

and for keyword research do you use market samurai?

Adsense isn't a reliable bussiness and should not be your main money maker. however it's a good method for newbies to start due to its simplicity to set up. When I started IM 2 and 1/2 years back , i got some autoblogs and monetized them with adsense and amazon. now few of my autoblogs got their rankings dropped (probably devalued ,used to be #1), 1 autoblog got banned by G for having sexual content on 1 of the posts (posted by WProbot). Due to those reasons , i'm not willing to spend much time and money doing adsense.
NOW with few autoblogs left i'm only making $10 - $50 a day on average and surprisingly $200-$300 per month with Amazon .....but those are passive incomes :)

For my content, I have a writer that I use in Montreal that I found almost by accident and I use Ramsweb as well. They both do great research and write as well as anyone I have ever come across.

A big site like the ones I create won't get banned by G due to the amount of unique content... think about ehow and how you would never see a site like that banned.

I use the adwords keyword tool for the most part to generate my KWs as well as wikipedia. I find a few KWs that would work and do some wiki searches for them, generate more KWs, take those KWs and run them through wikipedia for more KWs and put them all in the adwords KW tool and come up with hundreds of KWs from there.

I also use SEO smart links on all my WP sites.

I'll skype a link to one of my latest projects and you'll see how I do it.

The one I am sending you is 8 weeks old, gets 250 uv a day and makes about 80.00 a day from adsense.

Don't forget me :D we all can learn smthing new ;)

Oh btw even I love adsense and my main advice to the confused ones would be.. you win more than half the battle with good keyword research... so do that very carefully...

There can be only one. :D

Although I haven't been a TGP guy for quite some time now, too much work for too little return.

crazy :D seems like half of the GFY and AWI ... etc "gang" ended up on BHW ... I wonder why it took me so long to find BHW. But then again ... I've been pretty much idling for like 3+ years :D

Thanks for the info BassTrackerBoats :) Are you re-using/spinning the content for AMR submissions as well? I think I remember reading that you use AMR.

Thanks for all the great info. I have recentlyu started a blog which has adsense and some CB, Plimus and Amazon products. The only things that get clicked on is adsense and I am lucky if I get one click a day.

If anyone wouldn't mind sending me their link to compare with my site I would really appreciate it.

I have AMR on one of my laptops but don't use it nearly as often as I should but I do occasionally take the articles, spin them and put them in AMR after they are indexed in Google which only takes a short time.

I also use a huge ping list in my WP settings which is here:

So you just put your main KW in G's KW tool and then get articles written about the other related low comp KW's that it shows? If so do you think that 1 article per related KW is a good strategy?

I used to think Adsense was the end all monetization method (when I was wasting tons of time online) and that all you need is a high traffic site, slap Adsense on it, and make as much money as you can with your traffic. Now I realized it can be worth it to look around at other monetizing methods like CPA. I was making nothing with my forum, now I'm making a few bucks from content locker.

You need to find what works, what your users like, what you actually recommend (mostly for affiliates) and keep doing it.
