Adsense possibilities for Viral Media

Hi all,

Is viral media (videos & article descriptions) a worthwhile area to invest time in if I want to monetize the site through Adsense? Or I should I rather try and explore niche sites?

The aim is to make social media sites like Facebook the main traffic driver trough promoting posts, building followers and then compliment this with some backlinks for better PR.
