Main site is doing well at the moment with steady source of income generated thru placement Ads, and some decent KW rankings. Site is 100% unique human written articles.

I have secured a nice expired domain with good metrics and want to run it using 100% AI generated content as a test.

If the new domain was added as an Add-on domain on my hosting account, am I putting my main site at risk of being de-indexed also if G flags the new site as 100% AI and subsequently deindexed?

I have asked part of this question before many years ago regarding add-ons and SEO effects but realise now the playing field with G has changed significantly certainly following latest updates

not in a million years. If they do this to your site they'll have to do this to the sites of everyone else that hosts their sites on that server since the server has the same IP.

Now, if you were to link your sites together and - in doing so - google thought that you did it to manipulate the rankings they'd most likely penalize both of your sites. But I've seen 2 sites interlinked before and not be penalized, so even if you interlink your sites this is not a big risk (just a very tiny, small one).

But if you don't link the 2 sites together there's 0% chance of them being deindexed, and almost 0% chance of even being penalized in other ways.

But if you still want to be safe just buy a cheap hosting plan (there are hosting plans available for $1-10 per year) and you'll be free of all worries :)

EDIT: I just remember that there was this thing called "bad links neighbourhood", but if I remember correctly this was something related to multiple bad sites hosted on the same server more than interlinking your own sites. I'm not totally sure how this works, so look the details up if you want, but from what I remember it was something like if multiple sites that have been penalized by google are hosted on the same server (so, the same IP) then your (otherwise clean and white hat) site could also be negatively impacted in the rankings if it's hosted on the same IP. Something like this...
