Did that, and nothing happened, haha

Interesting to hear your views on this - we've flipped the process on it's head for marketplace 2.0 by giving the seller the information they require to make s decision if they are going to offer a sample to the member who is offering their time to provide a review of your service. Items like, time on site, membership level, the number of review copies requested by the user, number of review copies delivered to the user, number of review copies posted by the user, etc. then in a later release we'll look into links to those reviews, what section those reviews were in, did the merchant find their review useful or not etc etc.

Now you (the merchant) can choose to have this public or not, you will have the ability to approve or reject the this reviewer based on the information you see. Our system will then hold scores on reviewers so those that provide the most informative reviews (based on customer responses to those reviews) will be invited to test more products. Those that take the product but don't provide reviews will not be invited back into the review process.

Essentially Merchants will still be able to offer review copies but will get to see, review specific information and select those most suited to your product or service.

Once a merchant approves a review copy to a potential buyer feedback reminders will be automated to the member from the platform. Scores will be auto updated.

Would appreciate your views on this.

Is there a way to flag people who don't leave reviews either on a BST or in private? maybe a tag under there name as a flag? After all, they are basically stealing, as I said earlier:

I'd say it is a form of theft, as there is an agreement in place.

I will give you a copy of my product and in exchange, you give me feedback.

If you take it and run, then you are stealing it.

I have in the past had a review copy but due to being crazy busy forgot to give the feedback, but once received a reminder I have done so straight away, either on a BST or in a PM. I often now say to people who offer me any review copy, please do send me a reminder.

I think those who do this, especially after being sent a reminder should be named and shamed in public, staff issue them a warning and they should be banned from applying to beta test any service

So maybe a red flag under a username would highlight those willing to steal and not fulfill obligations?

+1 for this

I have a BST, and I always offer review copies. While buyers pay between $60-98 for the product, some members take it for free, and it's funny that they never come back to leave a review.

Can staff please make clear the rules about people who get review copies and who do not give feedback on the product?

They are getting things for free and not leaving feedback, so is this not a form of theft?

thank you in advance
I think it's not form of theft because you offered them that review copies, But definitely it's dishonestly.

Appreciate it's taking time but it's going to be worth the wait.
For now, whilst we understand this can be frustrating if a member doesn't provide a review in exchange for their review copy of a service it's a very time-consuming, manual process and won't always deliver the type of response you'd want. This is the reason we're focussing on 2.0 to provide a better user experience for both Merchants and Buyers alike.
So in answer to your question, if you wait for 2.0 there will be a process behind it where members sign up and have a clear understanding that they are committing to provide a full review in exchange for a review copy. Currently no such process exists and with the thousands of marketplace threads we have this would be unwieldy.

No current way to fesiably "flag" people but the intention is to increase visibility so essentially providing the merchant with more information on the user they are offering their service to. Whilst not tared and feathered those that chose not to leave reviews will receive less review copies, and those that do deliver reviews will receive more free services as they increase their status on the review platform, this is all part of the new marketplace coming soon. I'm one of those who -sometimes and not always- take a review and don't post back his review because simply it's a negative, and I don't want the seller to think I'm a competitor or negative person...; I remember someone who offered me a link-building package review and had an approved sale thread ... the backlinks were junk ... I was confused to post my review or not ... I didn't post my review because I can't lie, and at the same time don't want the headache and potential revenge...

I believe BHW staff should have secret BHW accounts that don't look like BHW staff for other members and could use these accounts for reviews.

If it is a service that is live, then if you are being asked to review then your review should be made in the open and be totally honest. The fact a BST is live means people are buying the service with their hard earned money. I guess one thing to ask yourself if you are checking out a BST, how many people who get the free copies, say how great the service is actually go back and buy?

A few years back I was offered a free article for an upcoming service by a new writer. What he sent me was pure junk and I said to him in private, you need to invest in Grammarly and use it but also look to hire someone to proofread manually because certain things get missed even by Grammarly.
I explained that if this was going to be the quality of what he was going to submit for a BST, it would get rejected. Plus if he was going to send that quality out to buyers, he would have no ends of issues.

@aristocratic maybe drop these people who have no replied to you a PM on here again, mayb ask one of the staff if they mind being added to the PM, and see if that gets it resolved.
Or maybe ask if we can have a section in Jr Vip where we can name and shame these people in the hidden Jr VIP, because after all only Jr VIPs can open a BST.

Like I said before this is a form of theft, you have a contract that you give a free copy to a person, their part of the contract is they provide you with feedback. They are not doing this and ducking the issue, so basically breaking the contract and stealing from you.
Anyone saying this is not theft, should look under the Theft Act 1968 as a starting point.

This rule is common:

1) if a seller offers you a review copy, but doesn’t deliver report him or her and mods will investigate and give a warning

2) similarly if a member takes review copy and fails to post review then report him or her and they’ll get a warning too .

if they continue on this path they’ll be banned.

(mods may dole out more punishment too, but this is what I have picked so far) mods please edit if I’m wrong here
Really, someone can be banned for this?

In my opinion a free review copy isn’t free - the payment is the review. Equally I believe review copies should be the full service and not a small sample of it, because the reviewers time is also valuable and they are using that to pay, in effect, for the service.

I agree though, the “buyer” most definitely should be leaving a review otherwise they have reneged on the deal.

mayb ask one of the staff if they mind being added to the PM

This is an interesting idea, but I'm not sure if its allowed or anyone from the staff would accept this?

@Mods, anyone?

We could maybe have instead of the Shitlist which is already there a new one called the Shithead List?

The person giving the review copy submits conversations where they provided the copy, then sent 2 reminders, and also the other parties replies.
These are like SLs and JV threads etc, hidden until approved.

Once live, the list is a Whos-who of who not to send review copies to.
pretty sure anyone would do it if they given threat will enter this shithead (SH) list, means no one will likely let their name on the list, for something as easy as, as free as, giving reviews

better if bhw provide another button on BST thread (next to "Like", "Quote", and "Reply") -something like "Request Review Copy", in which seller get notification to accept or decline the request. If accepted, that user will have 7 days to post in that BST, with reminder in D-3 and D-1 if they didn't do it already. failure to catch this deadline will simply give that user a warning. user with given review copy will be able to see "Post review reply" next to normal "Post Reply" button when trying to comment on respective BST. comment that is posted as review reply will also have marker to differentiate with normal reply

but this leaves an issue when a reviewer think the service provided is not good. in that case we need another popup upon clicking that "post review reply", to determine that review about to send is negative or positive. if it's negative, review will sent through PM instead of public comment

this way will make sure review copy is given, without sacrificing simplicity of seller when opening new BST

I'd have to disagree there, the reviewers should be able to provide feedback, good and bad, you can't improve if you don't know what's broken. The merchant will have a right to reply.

As mentioned above members will sign up to receive review copies, they don't post in the thread and there won't be a bump benefit from that. There WILL be a benefit from placing and providing the reviews copies.

I believe BHW staff should have secret BHW accounts that don't look like BHW staff for other members and could use these accounts for reviews.

We've been secret shopping for many years to maintain quality. That's no secret, there is no requirement on a merchant to provide anyone with a review so asking for reviews from those accounts won't move the needle. The review process that each thread goes through before being set live can be found here https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/the-black-hat-world-marketplace-rules.1295700/

Or maybe ask if we can have a section in Jr Vip where we can name and shame these people in the hidden Jr VIP, because after all only Jr VIPs can open a BST.

There are also marketplace sellers to consider who don't have access to this area. As mentioned above we're flipping this on it's head and giving the seller the detail on the potential reviewer via an automated system so they can make an informed decision.

If it is a service that is live, then if you are being asked to review then your review should be made in the open and be totally honest. The fact a BST is live means people are buying the service with their hard earned money. Totally agree! a review copy that then results in a buy is a great signal of success. Customer loyalty is taken into account in MP2 via a points system, adding additional merit to those that then re-buy after taking a review copy is an interesting idea. Many Thanks @MisterF

We're starting to head a little off topic so I'll summarise and close.

Answered - This isn't something that we currently cover in detail, however, we will in marketplace 2. The idea behind marketplace 2 is to provide benefits to both buyer and seller that we can't feasibly shoehorn into the existing solution. Benefits, such as escrow, structured verified reviews, product management, payment processing, review copy management, loyalty points and many many more, but we do need to focus on getting this live. I appreciate all the feedback on this topic I'm sure some of the suggestions will make it into the new marketplace and know that some are already there.
