I have a BST, and I always offer review copies. While buyers pay between $60-98 for the product, some members take it for free, and it's funny that they never come back to leave a review.

Can staff please make clear the rules about people who get review copies and who do not give feedback on the product?

They are getting things for free and not leaving feedback, so is this not a form of theft?

thank you in advance

Not a form of theft because you offer it for free. However, it does break the agreement. That is just a scum move :)

This rule is common:

1) if a seller offers you a review copy, but doesn’t deliver report him or her and mods will investigate and give a warning

2) similarly if a member takes review copy and fails to post review then report him or her and they’ll get a warning too .

if they continue on this path they’ll be banned.

(mods may dole out more punishment too, but this is what I have picked so far) mods please edit if I’m wrong here

Not for free; we give it in exchange for a review/feedback.

Don't confuse giveaways with Review Copies. :)

But you are right about the scum move ;)

Is this a rule?!

I’m really sure there’s seller protection but let a mod clarify

I'd say it is a form of theft, as there is an agreement in place.

I will give you a copy of my product and in exchange, you give me feedback.

If you take it and run, then you are stealing it.

I have in the past had a review copy but due to being crazy busy forgot to give the feedback, but once received a reminder I have done so straight away, either on a BST or in a PM. I often now say to people who offer me any review copy, please do send me a reminder.

I think those who do this, especially after being sent a reminder should be named and shamed in public, staff issue them a warning and they should be banned from applying to beta test any service

It is theft. It’s called a review copy. Meaning the copy is given in exchange for a review.

@OP, I agree. If there isn’t already a rule in place, there should be one.

Did you try reporting the individual though?

Can't agree more...

yeah did it. Still nothing, though.

Edit:

@crossline, yes I have done that. 3 times, not one

I am guilty of this, in cases when the service is just bad. Now I can give a review, but I am not gonna lie, and as is something I received for free, I do not want to do it. Of course if the seller insist I will do it...

I think you have to be fair and give a review, be it good or bad.

Remind them twice, after that take it to the staff, possibly shit list them if the rules permit.
A contract is a contract. This is a barter, your product/service in exchange for an honest review. They HAVE to honor the contract.

I've had the same problem a couple of times.

What about those reviewers who give good reviews to bad services?
Let's be honest... all sellers want good reviews no matter how shit their services are.

All sellers want good reviews, but we as REVIEWERS have to be fair and spot the pros and cons of every service.
This will help buyers make their decisions.

In case we only give GOOD REVIEWS to BAD SERVICES, we are helping one seller make money and scamming hundreds of buyers!

Not fair

You can give feedback in private to the person who is the seller.

We could maybe have instead of the Shitlist which is already there a new one called the Shithead List?

The person giving the review copy submits conversations where they provided the copy, then sent 2 reminders, and also the other parties replies.
These are like SLs and JV threads etc, hidden until approved.

Once live, the list is a Whos-who of who not to send review copies to.

I think you should have the right to not review if you feel that your review would be negative, but notify the vendor this is the case
