Both, setup redirects for both to point to your HTTPS site.

Depends on what expiredomain was with http or https. If it was with http then do http or vise versa.

I think, it depends on URL version of expired domain. If it is HTTP then you have to install SSL certificate to redirect to HTTPS.

How long does it take to see the effect after a 301 redirect?
