Unless you have been living under a rock, you likely have heard about the Tiktok Ban law that the US Government passed last year.

Well, we have some news about it, so I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread to discuss about the current happenings and the future of Tiktok.

Today, the Supreme Court upheld this decision in court and heard arguments about the constitutional validity of this law.

Tiktok is given until 19th January after which tiktok either has to sell itself to an American Owner or it will get banned from operating in the USA.

What I Think Will Happen

If tiktok gets banned, here's what will likely happen:
  • Existing Users would likely still be able to use tiktok. Servers will be moved to a different region.
  • The App Will Get Banned on The App Store and Play Store. More of than half of all smartphone users in the States are ios Users, and Apple doesn't allow sideloading apps in the US. So no new signups will likely be possible
  • Advertising services would likely stop.
  • Tiktok store and Partner Program will see the same fate
The coming week is going to be the most important for Tiktok, and very interesting for us internet marketers :D

What are your takes?

Should anyone else take this political, as some have done already, I'll have to lock this thread.

Please discuss this without the political aspects.

Then the thread should be moved because itis heavily tied into politics, esp. with Musk coming into govt. and gaining by this.

In my opinion Tik Tok will NOT be banned.

I think it will get banned but it is kind of funny that so many people are downloading that red book app that IS a chinese app (while tiktok is technically a chinese app because of its parent company but the app itself is run by a Singaporean so, take that as you will). Regardless, what will most likely happen is a TikTok clone will pop up, people will join it, then itll either be the "new" TikTok or die out in a while. Much like how BlueSky and Twitter is doing. But I dont think the app itself will die since its just a US issue, theres Canadians and Europeans and stuff on the app. Sure, itll lose some prominent accounts and stuff but itll thrive

All of this is done so that Musk buys TikTok, right ?

Not a hope in hell that TikTok will be banned in the US. 100% will not happen.

UPDATE: it's the 19th of January. And the ban has been implemented.

Tiktok users in the US are now shown this message when they open the app in the US.

This is most likely temporary. It seems trump will give tiktok an extension as soon as he arrives back at the white House.

This is all very very predictable.

Anywhere I can place a bet on it coming back? It's the most sure thing ever. I'd bet my house and car on it.

All of this is a setup for Musk to take over the app, I'm sure of it !

President-elect Donald J. Trump announced on Truth Social that he will delay the ban on TikTok via an executive order on Monday. He suggests that the United States should hold 50% of TikTok's shares in a joint venture, an idea that seems inconsistent with the ban. Surely to allow Musk to take a stake?

Does anyone used any of these proxies https://coingate.com/blog/post/buy-proxy-crypto and it worked to log in to tiktok?

TikTok displaying a message for its users that TikTok would be inaccessible.
