A programmer's journey to $3 a day

Just waste of time.. Go study some more so you can start building softwares early than waste time chasing few bucks.

Also look into developing a Saas business. SaaS is going to be huge in the coming years.

$5 per day do not scale to $500 per day and definitely do not scale to $5000 per day because it requires a completely different mindset.

One simply not think ass backwards. One must set proper goals.

If you want to learn SEO, that's great. You should use it to rank sites that will sell your products, not for a few Adsense clicks. SEO is my bread and butter, but if you've got something to sell, sell it! Advertising is your best bet. Make money selling your services, then use that to develop your own products, and get direct traffic via advertising. Worry about SEO when you have money to worry about SEO. Focus on one thing and be great it it. Since you already have a leg up on most Marketers in that yon can program, nurture your strengths.

F*ck it, you're right.

Spend last night brushing up on some Python and wrote a few simple image scrapers for Reddit, Sex.com and Google Images. Google Images is a pain due to them limiting the amount of queries you can do per second & the amount of results returned. Also scraped Brainyquotes for pretty much their entire quote database. I wonder if I could sell these.

Thanks for slapping me in the face (also thanks to the other people here) and pushing me further.

When I work hard I bring in about $500-$1000 a day programming. (I've been doing it for quite some time now) so I don't understand why you would set such a low goal. You're setting yourself up for failure because you're aiming too low. Hit up the BHW freelance section and I assure you that if you're skilled you could walk out with about $200 today.

PS: Check out my journey thread for my first car. Maybe you might get some motivation to start working your ass off and dreaming big.
 
As a programmer you can earn much. Search some some high selling bot, soft or WP plugin from Warriorplus and get them from blackhat forum.
Check their coding and re-design your own and sell as your own WSO

Seriously man, this goal is nothing. If i had your experience and stuff i would aim straight to 1k a day. Don't underestimate your power.

Chasing a few bucks won't get you anywhere, go straight to the big bucks. Try programming uber sites for yourself or try selling some software/bots, you'll make much more.

Again, I'm not looking to make $1k a day. I have a full-time study course and a business to run as well, although I've started abusing my programming knowledge. Thanks for the heads up!

What I've done today:
-Rewrote a couple of image scrapers to improve performance, downloading 400 images a minute now. (up from 150/min).
-Added a subdomain to my own website, set up a WP with an e-commerce page, customized it to allow for quick buying of products.
 
You can create a shitload of money as a programmer.
If I knew how to code and make apps, my first program would be some type of IM related program or bot then sell the shit out of it on clickbank, WF and DP.

But shared for free here of course!
 
So, this evening was pretty productive.
Upgraded my image scraper to multithreading. Didn't change anything in the speed of the images for me as I'm being bottlenecked by my bandwidth.
Started work a sort-of-like-scrapebox piece of software.

So far:

  • Loading of keywords/proxies via txt file and manual inserting.
  • Options to filter out duplicates (probably not so useful for keywords but hey, the code is there anyway. Might as well use it).
  • Couldn't think of a proper name, not exactly a priority anyway.
  • Scraping from google (just basic now, advanced searching should be child play)
  • Scraper for proxies, not perfect but it at least gives you a dynamic list of IPs if you don't have any private proxies

Next up: advanced search operators for google (site:, inurl:, intitle:). Saving options for the result set (url/domain/SERP/Title). Figuring out how the hell PR really works and integrating that option. After that I'll see where I end up, might go for setting up a system that allows me to throw a latest version on my own website and automatic updating of that.

If there's anything you'd like to see in this, or features that you really miss from other similar software, feel free to point them out (in return, free license!)
 
OP, what's your plan? You said you were working on a website, and now you're building a image scraper. Is there any reason why you've suddenly decided to yourself that building an image scraper for google more important that ranking your website and making some actual start up money?

If you plan on creating a product, let me tell you from experience...it's going to be expensive.

On average, I spend about $1,000-$5,000 on a product launch. That's for copywriting, sales page design, marketing, tracking software, etc. Not to mention I have to spend time networking, and building solid JV's. That takes time, effort, and most importantly...focus.

Right now, judging from all your posts, you're not focused on one thing and if you continue to lose focus, you'll lose time and money jumping from method to method.

My advice to you is to really think about your next step. Do you want to make money in the shortest amount of time, or do you want to fail?

While I agree with everyone that dreaming big is important and focus is important, I would just like to point out that taking action is more important and that's what OP is doing. It took me about a month or so of taking action on different methods before I decided on which one best fits my skills.
 
subcribed. I'm programmer too. I have full-time job but i'm researching IM. But i think that 3$/1 day is small purpose for a programmer.

If you're confident of your programming skills, I would also recommend developing a software and selling it. You could also do a subscription model if you like recurring income.
 
Ignore everyone who isn't a programmer giving you grief. I know your pain, I don't understand this SEO and IM stuff but I do a bit of coding. I do PHP, Perl and play with Ubot as my brain will not absorb anything about .Net coding for some reason!

I do this part time and for the last two weeks I have been making between 20 and 100 bucks a day Thats nothing compared to 90% of the people in this forum but its good enough for me :)

You start where you want and good luck to you on the journey :D

I was a QA when I first started IM and joined this forum, later I saw a number of "thousands of dollars/month" threads here but failed to make any amount when I try those methods. Long story short, BHW members (and their useful threads/post) helped me achieve some of my goals.
BTW I love the bot you created (within 2 hours) earlier.
