You can't connect to VPS after connecting to VPN, because IP change on VPS, you can fix this easily, you can connect to VPS when any time IP changed, its Dynamic DNS, or put small script on your server to notify you with new IP, i recommend Dynamic DNS, if you need help, i can explain this with step by step,
It's all about split tunneling. you want to split it so the traffic from your computer -> host ISNT tunneled, but everything else from the Host -> Out is tunneled.
